Rock-n-Romp
« on: February 12, 2007, 01:43:00 pm »
I thought I'd start a new thread on this topic.  Since some of you were curious about this, with the upcoming show... Here's the 'official' word from Debbie, the organizer of R-n-R.

"Hey there, folks. Rock-n-Romp, though intended for parents and kids, doesn't discriminate against the childless who want to come to see the shows. All I would ask is that you respect the space the kids are in (which tends to be all over the place, since that's how young kids roll), and don't try to start any drunken mosh pits. Heh. I will admit, there have been a few *creepy* non-parents who have come to shows and, as a paranoid parent (hey, paranoia is something you have to look forward to when you become a parent!), it freaks me out a bit to see someone like that around the kids and basically invading our turf. It is supposed to be a kid-friendly space where parents can feel comfortable, you know? That said, I will leave it up to you whether or not you want to check it out. It is a pretty fun scene, but come prepared for some wary looks if you appear shady! Thanks, and feel free to email me with any more questions: debbie@rocknromp.com"

Is this a bowling thing?  Because every adult that bowls seriously looks shady.

Seems luike a perfectly normal answer to me.....we had similar reactions at the Pancake Mountain Deerhoof thingy yesterday, there were quite a few folks without kids, although no-one seemed creepy

As my "kid" has grown from a "little kid" that I would take to as many shows as I could, to an "older kid" whose shows I now go to, my radar for creepy has probably changed somewhat ...

That said, the crowd at the first RnR her band played (2005) seemed very cool across the board, and not everyone had kids. (They got rained out in 2006).

A million kudos to Debbie, who really runs an amazing program (and one that seems to be growing nationally as well) ... and I'm glad that she DOES keep the kids' safety and their (and their parents') comfort level a priority.

I'm guessing that having it at a public venue this time, instead of in her backyard, will open up the doors for a bigger crowd and wider variety of fans, but hopefully everyone will have a good time.

I'm just so glad for another all ages show with such a good lineup ... can't tell you how hard it is to find gigs for a band of underaged kids  :)
