Shelby Lynne's album that won her best new artist was actually her sixth album. Unfortunately, she tried to go in a more rock oriented approach on her follow up, and it blew. I still think she'll makae strong comeback. As for the other artist on the list, they simply lacked talent. I think Norah has more talent than them, and will be on the cusp in the resurgance of roots music for several albums to come.

Mariah and Christina still appear to be going strong...Plus, what if Norah's next album only sells a quarter of what this one does. Does that make her a failure? I don't think the album was intended to be a major selling album anyway. Mariah is dead and gone, getting dropped by EMI sealed her fate. Norah Jones sold 5 million albums in the US. If the next sells 1.25 million I doubt she will be heading back to a trailer park.

i'm a bit late into this discussion... and i'm too lazy to read every post, but did anyone recall when Lauryn Hill was this huge deal and she won about 852 grammys for that one album, and then she just kind of dropped off the face of the earth? will that happen with nora jones?

Lauryn Hill was pretty "successful" with the Fugees before her solo project.Like Jones, just because she "drops off the face of the earth" doesn't mean the work that was recognized was no good.I think Lauryn Hill's Miseducation and Jone's record are both very solid!
