Maybe there will be a DC date, and Seth is not allowing them to announce it yet because he's still trying to sell tickets to his gay V-fest.

Has anyone seen the new Spin with Amy Winehouse on the cover?  The photos are taken by Terry Richardson.  Therefore, you feel really dirty after looking at them.  I mean, moreso than USUAL when looking at Amy Winehouse.

$50 for good seats at the Tower!  With service charges about $60!  Are you kidding me?

Seriously. Am I out of touch her with ticket prices, here?  Is there a ticket price inflation index?  Am I the only one not getting rich in America in 2007?  Are people THAT over-extended with credit cards and debt?

I love Amy but $60 when she only has two albums and about fifty minutes of good material?  It's not just her.  I was reading the New York Post last week and they were advertising a Nick Lachey (?) concert at a baseball park in New Jersey and the tickets (before service charges) were $65 and $75.  For the guy who was dating Jessica Simpson!

I don't get it.  I mean, I love going to concerts but in the last two, three years the prices have just shot up.  There's a weird addiction about going to concerts.  If you like buying movies on DVD and a great movie comes out on DVD, it'll still be there at Best Buy or at least be able to be special ordered one week...one year...five years down the line.  But for a concert you feel you have to see them RIGHT NOW!  Bands are only young once and before you get bored with them you have to see them as much as possible.  Once the concert has passed they are gone forever.  And if something unfortunate happens (Nirvana, etc...)

So I can sort of understand the urgency with going to concerts but as the record industry is imploding I don't see how charging $60 to see Amy Winehouse is helping things.

Ok.  Sorry for the rant.  Can anyone come up with a good caption for this?:

Friends of mine paid $126 (before service charges) for the True Colors thing the other night, and I thought that was pretty sick. The only reason why I'm going to Lollapalooza is because I got 2 of the 3-day passes for $60, plus I have a free place to stay. I understand that it costs money to tour these days...gas isn't cheap, and bands aren't making money from records. But really, it's a bit disappointing to see a huge corporate sponsor(s) and still pay a ton of money for what ends up being a 1 hour and 20 minute show. I learned my lesson after seeing Devo suck ass for barely over 60 minutes, and I had paid more than I wanted to. Unless I know for sure I'll be happy with the show, I just won't dish out that kind of cash anymore.

Don't count on it, too many "people" there for our favorite male ox.  But maybe ole ox will make it up to Vfest Toronto to see her, it's stellar line-up and Canadians are friendlier than we are and our money is worth...well at least what it's worth here.

I like Amy, but she's starting to get on my nerves, she's overbooked and bails on shows in a heart beat.

Amen, Brian.

Thankfully, there are still plenty of good shows to still see for $20 or less. And if you pay attention to music, you can see the good bands before they get popular and start hitting you with the bullshit prices. Unfortunately, we didn't have that possibility for Amy Winehouse (unless she played DC when Frank came out?).

no DC date?  folks, it's no big loss.  saw her at coachella - snoozefest.  if she's not drunk and being obnoxious, her stage show is pretty average and definitely not worth $60+ dollars.  i remember thinking "hum, an above-average lounge singer", and move on to another tent.

"It's all money gum
 No artists anymore
 You're only in it now
 To make more, more, more"

That's a good point.  Maybe they (her "people") are just maximizing profit.  Who knows if she'll make it to 2008?  We'll be lucky if she makes it to September.  Or even V-fest.

I'm not trying to be callous and/or cruel but whenever I look at Amy Winehouse I hear Joe Elliott (in his thick Sheffield accent on VH1's "Behind the Music"), lead singer of Def Leppard, on the drug/alcohol-induced death of bandmate, Steve Clark:

"His blood-alcohol level was double what killed John Bonham."

I say a little prayer for talented drunks like her every night.  Lindsay Lohan?  Not so much.

So instead just go see Detroit Cobras when they play Black Cat for $15 or whatever. I haven't heard the full CDs yet, but isn't it the same style... that retro 60s soul thing with a sassy female vocal?  And I'm not putting it down; I really like everything I've heard from both acts

If anyone should be denied a phuckin Visa it's that lush (instead of seemingly every other group from the UK that has ever reportedly smoked weed), and she shouldn't do another show until she at least has someone write her some new tunes, put out an e.p., something.  Her act was amusing the first nine times, but it's just sad now.  Lily is an overbooked novelty act, at least there's some talent with Amy when she can bother to show up and keep it together for 60 minutes.
