god, i love these boys, but really, every time i open a newspaper, there's an article about them. it's insane. they're coming here later, i think, and i'm going for sure - but honestly. nme was enough (put them on the cover before they were a band) but i think if they keep getting so much hype everyone will hate them.

Yes, but I don't think it's their fault.  On their first video, the lead singer introduces the song and then says, "Don't believe the hype."  They don't do many interviews; I think it's the over-zealous British press, as usual, looking for the next big thing.  
 
 But you're right, the over-hype is already starting a backlash.  How could any band so young live up to it?

Amen.  The NME especially is an overhype machine.  
 
 I enjoy their music, I just feel bad that a promising band has to be subjected to such astronomical standards.

Seeing as hype has to be bought in the US, it will be a month or so before they get named the fifth best record ever released.  I suspect a number of  brit band early adopters are on board already, but until DC101, etc gets its promo money they'll be just another band blogged to death about in the US.

A little more than hype this time.  Sold 360,000 of their album  making it the highest selling debut on the British charts ever.  
 
 I mean, yea, they are hyped to death, but a lot of times that hype doesn't translate to sales.  This time is sho' did.  
 
 Kosmo, I agree, we'll see what happens when the album is released here (I think Feb. 21st?).  Could be a backlash already and they will sink.  Either it's the Robbie Williams syndrome or their sound is just so British it won't translate here.

Did this show even make it onto the main page?  It wasn't in the last e-mail unless I totally missed something.  I was looking forward to seeing if they actually lived up to the hype, but I guess not.

Oh what fun....Bombay, Smackie and I will be chillin' in our deck chairs watching the fallout today.  FYI that show has been announced in the 9:30 email blast since Jan 11th with little fanfare in these parts, I'm guessin somebody let the monkey out  of the bag somewhere...

Wow.  I expected a sellout, but not this soon.  Hype or not - Are they actually any good?  I haven't even heard them yet.

I've heard a handful of their songs, and to me it's really indistinguishable from other Brit bands of their ilk. I've heard it's their "aw-shucks" attitude that makes them standout. Maybe with that sort of attitude, they should have been an alt-country band.
