 Man Utd bid for Rooney

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Wayne Rooney by offering £20m for the Everton striker.
The Old Trafford bid comes after Newcastle had a similar offer rejected by the Goodison Park club for the 18-year-old England star.

The Magpies are believed to have made an improved, £22m offer since then, and are awaiting Everton's response.

"We have made an offer," said United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "We haven't had a response from Everton though."

Actually, It's GREAT BRITAIN, not England that compete in the Olympics, so they compete collectively with athletes from England, Wales, N. Ireland and Scotland.

I don't think GB even bother with football, but I may be wrong. It's certainly not the professionals if they do.

Yep, the Toonies made United play their hand now instead of waiting until January as you suggested.

It looks like United were waiting for January so they can make a deal involving John O'Shea to help pay for Rooney because they are already short on the defensive end.  But New Castle wants O'Shea now because Woodgate is gone, so they're pushing United to get Rooney now.

 I bow to the master.

You know what the best part of that is?

I was just at lunch and they were showing the highlights of last night on the tele.  They showed Misty (from The OC I might add) rolling around after the win and then gettimg smacked on the ass and I said, at a mixed table, that I could watch that over and over again.

Of course the women were perplexed at why, they told the waitress, who told the table next to us and before you know it, all of the Chili's bar section is debating whether or not that's hot.

And then Venerable has the wherewithall to post the pictures for me.  Smackie is infecting both coasts and it's a beautiful thing.  Skinemax for all!

and what about Woodgate and Owen? I think Real Madrid is acting in a crazy way. Ronaldo, Morientes, Raul... and now Owen? What a waste of money, he is not going to play too much, unless the coach prefers him rather than Morientes for the bench. The best part is the money they are going to pay in salaries for Owen and Morientes, two players who will start most of the games in the bench.

Borderline, you're right.  26 and 27 or something like that?

But rolling around in the sandbox like that makes them look so much younger...

Just to bring those lovely photos back to the front.....

 Oh and to report this:

 ROONEY FEE AGREED

Manchester United today announced they have reached an 'outline agreement' for the transfer of Wayne Rooney from Everton.

Rooney: Sir Alex closing in (MatthewLewis/GettyImages)

The announcement to the Stock Exchange came as Everton insisted they were still seeking 'the best available deal' for the 18-year-old England striker in the final hours before the transfer deadline at midnight tonight.

United's statement to the Stock Exchange read: 'Manchester United plc has reached an outline agreement with Everton FC for the transfer of the registration of Wayne Rooney, subject to his successful completion of a medical.

'Details of the agreement will be announced when all terms are complete.'

Rooney, who had also been targeted by Newcastle, was undergoing a medical at United's Carrington training complex following tests at a Manchester hospital earlier this morning.

However, the two clubs have yet to officially confirm a transfer fee - United having increased their bid to £25million over the weekend.

Everton spokesman Ian Ross said: 'I must stress that no deal has yet been done. We have always said we are looking for the best available deal for the club and supporters - and that is what we intend to do.'

Rooney is currently out of action after breaking his foot at Euro 2004. But that would not appear to have deterred United from getting their man, who arrived at the training complex with United's club doctor Mike Stone.

Rooney was not in the stands at Old Trafford when Everton drew with United yesterday but arrived in Manchester less than 24 hours later.

He hit out at Everton at the weekend for the response to his transfer request last week and said he was 'gutted' at the situation at the club.

Fans at Goodison jeered the absent teenager during their team's 2-1 win against West Brom after he demanded a move.

Newcastle bid £20million and then £23.5million for the Croxteth-born player who has scored 17 goals for the Toffees since arriving in the Premiership spectacularly two years ago.

But the departure of manager Sir Bobby Robson yesterday, plus the fact the Magpies could only offer UEFA Cup football compared to the lure of Champions League action at Old Trafford, would appear to have swayed Rooney away from the north-east.

United failed with their first bid of £20million before increasing their offer over the weekend.

The teenager's reputation - and consequently his transfer value - rocketed in the summer when he was the star of England's otherwise unremarkable Euro 2004 campaign, until breaking the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot in the quarter-final defeat against hosts Portugal.
