i'm going to try to make it. or at least try to try. it's been many years since i've seen those drab motherfuckers. this band definitely wins the award for Album Opening Lyrics Most Likely to Grab Your Attention:

It was the biggest cock you'd ever seen, but you've no idea where that cock has been.

Looks like I've been outed. But if anyone would know that kind of arcane tidbit, it would be you, Snailhook. We have Bill Kellum in common, then.

ha, twas with a little sleuthing and guessing that i arrived at that conclusion. marc masters was supposed to introduce us at some show at the warehouse recently...but i can't remember which one.

i only out you because vinnie van go go recorded my band on the VHF 8-track last summer, and he thought that one of the pieces had a "sloat" feel to it, which is a total compliment to me, as i am an old VHF fan. bill kellum rules, and though i know that hardly anyone cares about VHF around here, the label and all of its bands mean a ton to me and were elemental in my appreciation of avant/improv psych. i'm trying to push our new record on BK, but he's pretty swamped with a bunch of projects.

i made it out. i think i definitely got both ends of the spectrum with art brut one night then arab strap the next night. although i guess arab strap isn't as mopey as they used to be. i sorta like the mopier stuff better, when he'd just be mumbly joe for a while then it would proceed to rock out for a bit at the end of the song. i left after about 45 minutes because they came on about an hour later than i was expecting them to. also, they are a 45-minute band for me. nothing wrong with that, though.

Was a pretty good turnout, I thought. Guess it was Aidan's birthday, some people sang to him at one point. He didn't seem to happy, though. Not did he offer to stand everyone a pint.

'hook: absolute right on! VHF deserves better and Bill is a genius as well as being a complete man of his word. One of the projects he's busy with is trying to (finally) get the Sloat singles compilation finished, which is mostly our fault, cuz we're stupid and dysfunctional. But hopefully it will be out by the end of decade if BK  doesn't stop speaking to us first.

might have been the last Metropolitan show, btw.

band practice ended up running til about 10, so i figured by the time i got to iota, arab strap would've been halfway finished, though it sounds like they didn't even start until 10. i guess we're the only three that cares about this band on this forum?

mrpee, i think bill mentioned a sloat singles comp in the works. whenever it comes out, i'm sure i'll be getting it. i told bill we should do a VHF anniversary show -- like the teenbeat one -- with rake, pelt, sloat, and doldrums, though it would have to be at my house because only 14 people would show up!

did metropolitan open the show or did you talk to someone in the band? they're thinking of breaking up?

it was a pretty good show.  some of their material was ho hum, all of it was at least good, occasionally brilliant.

the openers were pretty bad though.

I have most of their albums, have not heard the new one, and missed the show out here, but the one time I did see them it was truly awful, it was sound issues.
