Feist?
« on: February 03, 2006, 05:44:00 pm »
I'm thinking going to see Feist at the Black Cat next week with a friend of mine. Anybody have an opinion on her music? I know the tune "Mushaboom" and that's about it. How's the rest? Just curious.

Album is excellent. Saw her solo acoustic, not so good. But with a band she'd probably be good. Except for that other band she's in, not so good. At least on record.

Yeah, I quite like her album.  There's maybe only a song or two that I would skip over.  I can't speak for her live show, but I'm considering going.

I think it's sold out.  Ticketmaster couldn't find any tickets.

Gotta love it when Ticketmaster makes my decisions for me. Thanks for the input though.

She is supposed to be amazing live. You should watch her performance of Mushaboom on Jimmy Kimmel to see what she's like with a band... it's absolutely superb.

I'm sorry you weren't able to get tickets before the show sold out. (I can't go because of school, which I hate.) Hopefully you'll get to see her soon. I can't believe Feist (not to mention Stars!) sold out.

she really annoys me for some reason, much the same way that the lead singer of the dresden dolls does .... maybe i just haven't heard/seen enough of her

Hmm, that's odd. I guess some people will find Feist annoying, but never would I have guessed it would be in the same way the girl from The Dresden Dolls does. Neither really annoy me, but the eyebrows--or lack thereof--of the girl from The Dresden Dolls do.  :p

WRNR is giving away tickets for a private radio station performance at Rams Head in Annapolis. But you gotta listen to washed up former HFS djs, and not from the good years....

Isn't she the lassie that opened for BSP last spring?  I was standing at her mic listening to her ramble on about how the french clap on the downbeat, etc.  Wasn't really impressed, but wasn't there to see her either.  She was different, but.... sort of an acquired taste.

Who is BSP? I know she opened for Broken Social Scene last October.

Yup - the wife and I were at the show. Holy hot damn, did Feist ever put on a great show. Some of the reasons to appreciate the show might not be obvious to people who haven't seen her before. One of the things I love about her live is that she's constantly reworking her songs to make them sound different. Mushaboom and Inside and Out were two good examples of that. She also added at least three or four new songs that will be on her upcoming CD. One of the new ones was just her on piano - really quite beautiful.

She joined opener (and fellow BSS member) Jason Collett for a couple of songs. She sang on Hangover Days (the parts Emily Haines does on the CD) and played drums on I'll Bring the Sun.

The crowd was pretty good, too. Alot quieter than most Black Cat crowds, which was good for the quieter songs.

Overall, definitely one of the best Feist shows I've seen.
