GBV -- Greatest Hits
« on: November 05, 2003, 11:20:00 am »
So, as much as I hate to ask, knowing there are extremely passionate GBV fans on this board, I am contemplating dipping my toes into the GBV universe to get a sample. Their greatest hits CD is coming out soon, and my thinking is that would be a good starting place. Do you GBV-aholics agree? Or would an early album be better?

that should be enough for anyone. I might even listen to it, and I dont really like GBV.

Well Pitchfork awarded the new "Best of" its highest rating of any album this year.

Get the greatest hits, problem is no two GBV fans will agree on which albums to buy

I may say Propeller and Alien Lanes, a lot of people will say Bee Thousand, Venerable Bede will say Under The Bushes Under the Stars, so get the greatest hits, it ia available now and is cheap.

I have to admit, the pitchfork review got me thinking initially. But sometimes they get so full of themselves, its almost hard to know. Their highest all year though? Well alright then. I'm sold....

That was this year.

 I stand corrected.

I was going by this list which didn't show the Clash.

WOW,

MARKIE vs GGW and Markie wins. I sense a flaw in the Matrix.

But its a moral victory for GGW as that clash greatest hits is no better than the 2 disc, story of the clash that came out years ago. You should really just buy all the clash albums instead of a greatest hits anyway.

honestly though, you should buy the greatest hits cd, although, as bruce mccullough once said, "greatest hits albums are for housewives and little girls."

won't be able to purchase the box set until next week.  btw, i know the track lists are different for the greatest hits sold separately vs. the one sold in the box, but they have the same songs, right?

propeller is indeed a fine album, and bee thousand was the first one i got, but under the bushes under the stars has gbv humming at its finest.  i find alien lanes to be pretty hit or miss through most of it, and i rarely listen to that one, whereas i need little reason to put on propeller, bee thousand or under the bushes.  i think this goes back to the harmony issue you have.   :)
