Love Is All/Caribbean/BigYawn Roll Call

Who is venturing out to see Love is All with the Caribbean on Thursday? Hell, even Pitchfork mentioned the show (today). And with Pitchfork and NME telling you to go, itâ??s hard to say no.

Just a bump for what it's worth. The show and the band (Love is All) were covered by NME, Pitchfork and the Washington Post. Might be one of those chances to catch a band during the "I saw them when" period of their career. Or maybe not...

Very cool show last night. Full of DC DJ's, folks who have been spinning Love is All for over a year. I really like them, their sound is all over the place, as is suggested by the Blondie references they get. Dancey at one song, garagey the next, and sugary sweet on yet a third. I'm really glad we were able to hook them up for this show. Awesome DJ set by the Laundry crowd as well (loved the Mo-Dettes(?) Rolling Stones cover). And check out the Caribbean the next time they play in town. A Hold Steady vibe to them, but in a pop way.

i thought love is all was pretty good and fun, i think i was just a bit too tired to really get into it. also i was dismayed with the wizards' performance against the wolves earlier in the evening, so that had me down. but yeah, they had good songs, i just wish they didn't use that one drumbeat (you know, that drumbeat that's in every post-punk dance-y song) so often. singer's got a good voice, sorta sounds like the concretes chick (both swedes, so no surprise), with the cadence of the life without buildings chick. the saxophone seemed a bit out of place sometimes, but not as much as it could have been. very enthusiastic crowd, the floor was a-shakin'.

i thought the openers cause commotion were pretty alright as well. sort of the lucksmiths but a lot louder, like crossed with comet gain, or something like that. hard and fast indie pop like the late-'90s.

i was too tired to stick around for the caribbean and i felt bad, because i'm sure that place emptied out a lot.

 well booked show, redsock.

ah, I loved them!  Looking forward to the full length release in Dec.  Didn't stick around for Caribbean either - had to be at work early the next day, but Love Is All was def worth the effort.  A couple pics from the event, although it's mostly my friends, there are some band ones in there as well:  http://thecale.myphotoalbum.com/

Redsock, you should be commended for booking such an excellent show. Great to see you amongst the familiar faces. I thought Cause Co-Motion were amazing. Josef K fans would love them. Love Is All was good, but honestly not as impressive as they are on record (weird that I say that, but they come across as having more bite on their studio recordings)...

Of course they're kidding themselves, but it would be great if the NME turned out to be right about Love Is All marking the death knell for all the poseur/pretender new new wave bands that are pre-market tested and designed to make cash. It would be great to hear more real post-punk---or at least indie that doesn't sound like it's trying to cater to the lowest common denominator.
