Radio CPR Benefit Album
« on: September 04, 2003, 03:19:00 pm »
Washington, DC based Dischord Records, now in its 23rd year promoting against-the-grain entertainment, is working on a compilation CD that will benefit Radio CPR (Community Power Radio)â??an activist, low-power FM station serving the Mt. Pleasant, Columbia Heights, Petworth, and Adams-Morgan neighborhoods of Washington, DC.

Begin Live Transmission, unlike a typical music compilation, plays like a radio show. It features a cross section of culturally-diverse musicians and bands from the neighborhoods served by Radio CPR, as well as broadcast excerpts, station IDs, and interviews representing the stationâ??s radical mission to reclaim the airwaves against a tide of forces including an unlikely alliance between the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and National Public Radio (NPR), both of which have worked over the past five or so years to kill low-power FM. NAB and NPR, in this regard, are playing directly into the hands of the monopolistic Clear Channel Communications and their allies, the US administrationâ??at great peril to freedom of expression on the airwaves. Check our link to Salon.com for more on Clear Channel.

Begin Live Transmission includes 22 musical tracks interspersed with radio excerpts. Dischord will release it next month. The tracks are
