Boys Don't Cry

Nope, this isn't about The Cure......

 From the Liverpool Echo:

Football fans are seasoned campaigners at tackling freezing winter nights.

But football-free summers leave them depressed and withdrawn, research showed today.

The end-of-season blues will leave supporters sicker than the proverbial parrots this summer because  -  thanks to last year's World Cup  -  they have enjoyed 22 months of virtually uninterrupted action.

Researchers found that up to two-thirds of football fans in the UK - 9.2 million people - will experience these symptoms.

Symptoms of this "disorder" include lethargy, inability to converse (what's new?) and a feeling of hopelessness, characteristics some fans experience during the season (especially in Manchester).

Research found 75% of fans believe football more important than anything else, while 70% said it was the dominant conversational topic (sound familiar Mankie?).

The survey showed 83% of supporters believe football boost their moods, while 86% plan their day around a match.

Psychologist John Castleton, the report's author, said: "Football fans hold a deep-rooted relationship with their team and, like any other close bond, to have that suddenly removed could cause a crisis.  Often fans will feel a void on a Saturday afternoon."

If Mrs. Mankie reads this board, I suggust that you hide the knives!  Good thing us Yanks have baseball and left turn auto racing to occupy our time.

And from the Sunday Express:

England skipper David Beckham is being sold by Manchester United for £30million - now the world's most famous footballer must decide between Spain and Italy.

Secret talks have been on-going for weeks to lure Beckham to either Barcelona or new European champions AC Milan.  Beckham , wife Victoria and Romeo are currently on a working holiday in America, where he is thinking over the approaches.

Both Barca and Milan have already made discreet contact with this agents SFX to attempt to negotiate personal terms with the Old Trafford star.

Beckham will pick up £150,000-a-week at Barca.  But while Milan will not match that, they can offer Beckham Champions League football next season, unlike Barca.

I say Beckham goes to Milan just so he can beat United in the Champions League.  Anyway, there sure will be a lot of tears spilling into yer Budweiser in D.C.!

Let him go to Barcelona. No Champions next year and possibly not even the UEFA Cup, but there is a huge change in the club and they are working to build a new team that allows them to fight again against Manchester United, Madrid, Milan and Juve. Also, British players (mainly Lineker, Archibald and Hughes) did great in Barcelona. We need a good british player again.

I doubt Beckham will leave Old Trafford...from the Man Utd Website Barca have said they can't afford the salary he would require and the team sponsor is also a direct competitor of Beckhams personal sponsor (Vodafone) of which he has two years left of that contract....Barca not being in the Champions league is also a huge stumbling block for them...Real Madrid! Becks's probably realizes he's only being chased by them for his celebrity status not his skills, and on top of that, with the squad they already have I think he also realizes he would be a bench warmer for most of the season, like McNamamamamamam! Both Milan Teams and Roma are all just dreaming if they think they can land him.

With United just winning the premiership in the fashion that they just did, and the re-kindled hunger in Fergusons heart as well as the players. I think you will see United add to the team not sell from it, right now is the best time to join United, not leave them.

Having said all that...money talks so you never know, but I doubt he's leaving.

From AOL News.........

POSH Spice Victoria Beckham and her husband David stole the show at a star-studded Hollywood movie awards ceremony.

The pair sent fans wild with delight when they arrived in stunning matching white outfits for the MTV Movie Awards, 2003, in Los Angeles.

The Beckham's were there to present Irish wildman actor Colin Farrell with an award for Best Transatlantic Breakthrough.

Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Samuel L Jackson also graced the event in central LA.

But it was Britain's own celebrity pair, who sent fans wild. The crowd shouted "We love you David" and chanted "Manchester United."

Victoria revealed a fuller figure in a sheer white dress complete with a low-cut, off-the-shoulder bustier-type top that was studded with diamonds.

David ditched his corn-braid hairstyle for a swept-back look and sported rough-look film star stubble.

The England captain wore a white casual linen suit with open-neck white shirt for the event which finished at 8am British time.

Both wore silver and diamonds with Becks adorning himself with a big silver diamond crucifix over his shirt.

The Manchester United star had his right arm in a plaster cast to heal his broken wrist - also of course in matching white.

I wonder what would happen if Robbie Fowler or Micheal Owen showed up? The bouncers would probably kick them out for loitering!

Seeing as the rest of the world does, they may as well get on the bandwagon.

I just hope to God Beck's doesn't try to make a record or something lame like that. I bet Robbie Williams is pissed off that Beckham has broken the US market and hasn't as much as kicked a frigging ball over hear yet!!

Posh Going J-Lo? Former Spice Girl to Work With Ol' Dirty Bastard

Damon Dash has amassed quite a posse for his Roc-A-Fella Records camp in the last two years. He saved Cam'ron from being just another anonymous, street-reared rapper. He resurrected M.O.P. out of the grimy landscape of Brownsville. And he welcomed Ol' Dirty Bastard with open arms when the Wu-Tang MC was released from jail.

And for his latest reclamation project? Posh Spice.

Ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is recording a new solo album that Roc-A-Fella honcho Damon Dash will oversee. The as-yet-untitled album, due in September, will be released on Beckham's European label, Telstar, and through Roc-A-Fella in the States.

"I've never helped anyone outside the Roc like this, so this is different for me," Dash said. "But when we talked, I got to feeling how she wants to win like I want to win. I got to see where her heart is and how she'd work hard to promote her record."

Dash already snapped up Beckham, wife of English soccer star David Beckham, to promote Roc-A-Wear, the clothing line he owns with Jay-Z, in billboard ads alongside Naomi Campbell and as the line's European spokesperson as it's launched overseas (see "Dame Dash Nabs Spice Girl To Rep For The Roc"). But recently, the two met in Paris to discuss Beckham's musical aspirations. Dash realized there was serious pop potential in their relationship.

"She pays close attention to what makes people move and she truly loves hip-hop and R&B as well as pop," Dash explained.

Almost more surreal than the partnership between one of hip-hop's most savvy moguls and one of pop's ex-icons is who exactly Dash has her working with. Already, he's overseen the recording of two songs â?? "It's That Simple" with M.O.P. and "Let's Do It Again" with Cam'ron.

"She went into the gutter," Dash laughed. "I mean, M.O.P. is the grimiest group we got, and she took it there. I wanted to push her limits."

When Dash introduced her to M.O.P. in the studio, they didn't know who she was. "They thought they were just doing me a favor. But she won them over. They liked her as an individual."

Dash doesn't know if Jay-Z will make a cameo, but he's already recruited Macy Gray and Ol' Dirty Bastard, a.k.a. Dirt McGirt, to write songs with her.

Any criticism fans of the Roc may have with this latest signing can get kicked to the curb, Dash says. "If I say it's aiight, it's aiight. I think I've built up enough respect in hip-hop at this point that they should trust my opinion. They wasn't worried about it with Jay. They wasn't worried about it with ODB. They shouldn't be worried about it now. You watch â?? I'm not just going to make her a pop star but a Roc star, too."
