Will Kings of Leon sell out?
« on: September 09, 2003, 02:44:00 pm »
I didn't think they would but then I heard their show in NYC was sold out.

I guess they're getting a bunch of pub for opening for the Strokes tour.

 Anyone have a guess?

Lots of shows that sell out in NYC don't sell-out here.

KoL has been getting a lot of "buzz" but I would be very surprised if it sold out -- Of course that's just my opinion, so don't hold me to it.

Both Dandy Warhols shows in NYC are sold out, and the one here is not.

So funny, I thought you meant sell out as in sigh to Warner Records or something!

I'll bet they don't sell out.

There are probably more hipsters in just about any city in America than in DC.

Saw 22-20s at that monsoon day in June.  Way... Way too southern sounding for me.  Quite rough around the edges if I recall.

Kings of Leon will be featured on "Subterranean" on MTV2 this Friday night at midnight.  Just an FYI...

I heard it's a 2 for 1 deal, so 5 bucks a piece.  I'll be there either way.

So here's a $0.50 review of this $10 show.

22-20's -  Not bad.  Detroit garage rock-y with a British flair.  They only played 5 songs - one for each patron that was in the club at that point.

Jet - This band's sound can be summed up by a single piece of their equipment "Flying-V"
If AC/DC, Molly Hatchet and Grand Funk Railroad spawned, Jet would be the product.

Kings of Leon - Ehhhh......  They were much better in person than they are on record. But most of the songs seemed to sound same-y.  The guitarist was proficient and the rhythm section had some chops.  I think it's just not my style.  But judging by the very young and relatively well-dressed crowd who seemed to know the words to all the songs, these (exceedingly ugly) cats may be going places.

But the crowd weren't hipsters.  It was more like the lacrosse team.
