Synopsis -

 Long Winters - great

Jesse Malin - awful to unbearably boring, surprisingly it seemed like most people were there for him, morons

Brendan Benson - great sound, the first song he played, a new one was really good, the new version of Metarie is not as good as the album, I left a little early as I was also pretty tired that night but really enjoyed what I stayed for

Hello, meant to say hi last night as well, but felt like getting home once the music was over and forgot, sorry.

I didn't get to this show either -- had a wedding shower thing that ran late due to rain and all kinds of bad karma.

Woulda been my first Benson show....I'm sad, sad, sad.

Will make up for it by catching Ash Wednesday.  Anything else I *shouldn't* miss, as a Brendan Benson fan??

Hmmm...I didn't catch this show, as I was totally underwhelmed by his performance opening for the White Stripes last year...for those of you who were at that gig, should I expect more of the same, or have they improved?

I wasnt impressed by them opening for White Stripes either, but then I got the album and it was great.  This show was much better, as I said before, sound was great, I remember not being able to understand anything he was singing at the White Stripes.

Jadetree, I concur. The Long Winters were great. Loved the harmonizing and the lead singer's voice. Jesse Malin just wasn't my thing (but he did tell a good story). The music bored me after a while, I am sorry to say. And I liked Brendan Benson. But then I've liked him ever since seeing them at the White Stripes show. (But I do have to agree about Metarie -the new version doesn't work as well.) I liked some of the other changes they made, though. Was it me, or was Chris singing a lot more this time?

Did you pick up the Long Winters albums?  They are a lot slicker than the live show, but really good.  The guys in the band have a lot of experience and I think it showed.

Benson seemed to be screwing up a couple of times, maybe he was distracted for some reason.  He looked awful too, he can't weigh more than 100 pounds.

having seen Brendan and his "wellfed" boys six times during the past year i would have they are one of the few bands whose performance really depends on how much love the audience is giving... they can either totally rock out or be a bit mellow.

the white stripes tour may have not been the best choice for them, the record had just come out and it was the first lengthy road stint for the band.  they were also having to win over fans who were there to see the white stripes.

i can't be objective about their dc white stripes show as i was so geeked about seeing the guys from the mood elevator playing live for the first time.  i was also big fan of the atomic numbers as well.

at the white stripes baltimore show, they worked hard and won over the audience.

the fletchers show was by far the longest set from the band, including several songs not normally played from brendan's first cd.  he was honoring requests including letting chris sing "boycott"

the black cat show was alright, but lacking because they didn't a full pa at their disposal.

the cmj showcase with idlewild the band was bit laid back, in part because they had just come back from europe.

the last show in portland was probably the best, because the band had began to draw thier own fans and the ben kwellar fans were into them as well... the band felt the energy of the crowd and played to it.  really rockin' sound mix as well.
