i expected worse with that intro, and I have not thought about it a lot but it seems it is just in the wrong order, wasnt really surprising from them though, it is much better than their singles list was

Interesting that their pick for the #1 album (Arcade Fire) on their 2004 Best of List from just six short weeks ago was only the 8th highest album from 2004 on this list.

Hahaha. I think I read some magazine that picked their album as the worst of 2004. Can't remember which one off the top of my head.

The best lists I've seen in awhile were Stylus Magazines best and worst of 2004, which were identical with the same albums in the same order.  I prefer the worst list and it's snarky comments.  
 
 Highlights
 
 1. Fiery Furnaces - "Oh no! What indie shit have the kids voted for this year? "
 
 3. Nellie McKay - "Precocious teenage girl does hip-hop show tunes. Iâ??d rather boil my own head than listen to this. "
 
 10. Arcade Fire - "Hokey lo-fi indie shit that sounds like a busker frazzled on acid banging a guitar and chasing his lost dog."
 
 11. Annie - "Kylie for those who own mp3 blogs."
 
 Note: having heard an Annie mp3 this is a very true statement.

let's be honest-- pitchfork does these lists because they know that the lists drive more traffic to the site than do reviews of whatever obscure EP they happen to like.
 
 personally, i think they're useless except in occassionally pointing me in the direction of a band i've missed.  usually, though, these lists are just points of reference for how much my taste differs from PF's.

Is it me or is half of the list bands that you have never heard of or had no impact on you at all. Its nice that rap and RnB are breaking into pitchfork. I cannot wait for Usher to have their top album.
 
 There seem to be a handful of albums I rate really highly that skip the list, notably the National and the first Mull Historical Society.
