Lucero suggestions?
« on: May 08, 2006, 04:59:00 pm »
been listening to

  <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006JJ59.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" alt=" - " />
 "tennessee"

 and

  <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000C237M.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" alt=" - " />
 "that much further west"

 compulsively lately ... any suggestions of what to get next by Lucero?  Their latest one ("Nobody's Darlings")?  "Attic Tapes"?  "S/T"?

 also, does anyone have any band suggestions that sound similar to Lucero?  I like alot of the ones allmusic suggested,

    (* Buffalo Tom
     * Scud Mountain Boys
     * American Princes
     * Johnny Cash
     * Rocky Votolato
     * The Weakerthans
     * Against Me!
     * The Replacements)

 but there's gotta be more gritty southern alt-country with punk leanings out there ... and how did allmusic leave drive-by truckers off that list?!

I'm not really very fond of Lucero, but if you want more rough and tumble alt-country in that style, try I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House, Two Cow Garage, and any Slobberbone album except for their last one.

Check out Marah also.  They're another band similar to Lucero - both of these bands put on great live shows.  Looks like Marah is coming to the 930 soon - opening for Alejandro Escoveda.  Hoya - if you're interested I can hook you up with some live shows from Lucero and Marah

Yes, excellent band. They have four mp3's on their website, though I've heard other songs on KEXP that I liked more. Wish I had caught them at Iota.

Defintiely get S/T and Nobody's Darlings.  S/T leans more towards country, while Nobody's Darlings leans more towards rock, but they're both solid albums.

 And 'hell yeah' to the Drag the River' rec.  God I love that band.

Murder by Death is awesome.

 And according to the Ottobar, Lucero is headlining.
