Speaking of U2 and Grammies...
« on: February 09, 2006, 09:32:00 am »
How does the same album get nominated for a second year in a row as "Album of the Year" Was there NOOOOO albums in 2005?

Pretty shitty that U2 wins three awards of an album that's two years old.

Who's paying for these awards? Come on, Kelly Clarkson beating out Gwen Stefani, Maria Carey, Bonnie Raitt, and Paul McCarthy?

Just like the government...totally corrupted  :)

Most of us do not consider the Grammy's an "award."

I love the fact that Henry Rollins gave his grammy away for "best spoken word CD" or some crap like that. He said it was an insult to musicians everywhere to own something like it.

The Grammy's are a joke, but the general public who tune in to watch probably don't care.  They would have never known that Fountains of Wayne was hardly a new artist when they got nominated for thier third record, probably never heard of them before and didn't run out and buy anyways. Labels require thier employees to vote for their artists.  According to Coolfer they release records with the sole purpose of getting thier employees eligibile to vote in the Grammy's.  It's simply a marketing tool...

Some of the Grammy winners in the non-mainstream categories are deserving. For example, Ry Cooder and Ali Farke Toure were both winners.

Is Ali Farke Toure related to Seko Toure, the late dictator of Guinee-Conakry?

I know the Grammies are a joke and a marketing tool, but it really is just a slap in the face to every other record label and artist out there when another band wins off an album that won the year before.

Personally for me, U2 lost it after "Joshua Tree."

Did you listen to any of those songs?  Gwen gave it a good run but that was the best song out of that bunch.

The real question is were those the songs that should have been nominated?  And for the record, I've said it from the first day that I heard it that Since You Been Gone should be song of the year.  And I'm pretty sure Ted Leo agrees with me.

The TV went off right after Linkin Park got called an "inspired rock band."  That just did it for me.
