the carlsonics no more
« on: May 13, 2005, 05:16:00 pm »
for those of you who were wondering what's up with the carlsonics, they broke up. ed left the band in february, and the others decided to change the name of the band and go in a different direction. nikki's going to sing lead now and aaron is playing guitar. from the recent demos i heard, i'd say the new direction is an improvement. they are now called nethers.

ed is going to concentrate on recording/engineering for the time being.

We heard about this a few weeks ago, but were asked not to put it up on the site cause at the time it was not meant to be general knowledge. Does suck. They always put on a good live show.

That's such a shame. But at least the others will continue on. I can't imaging Aaron not being the frontman.

Too bad....but, who knows what the new bands will bring.  Just saw Aaron at the Lucksmiths show at DC9, quite dandied out with sailor cap and yacht-ready indie wear.  He's a hoot, I tell ya.  I hope the Nethers hit Fort Reno.

Speaking of, any idea when that schedule goes up?

yeah, they got tired of being pigeon-holed into the nu-garage sound. of course, it was mostly their own fault. i always thought they were better than what they recorded, and i think the new material shows that. i also think nikki is a far superior vocalist than aaron.

well thats what I mean when I say what they were heading towards, their live shows were straying away  from the album and getting sludgier? with songs lasting much longer and made heavier, the nethers tracks are just much more mellow

and nikki may be a better vocalist, but aaron was  fun to watch as a frontman

I really like the new songs! You are right, snailhook. A much more interesting direction for them.

ed is opening for the impossible shapes and odwalas (both on secretly canadian) at the warehouse on june 7th. he is calling himself donny hue and the colors. this should be a terrific show...the impossible shapes are a band that should be more known around here. they play well-written folk/psych-pop.
