Mid - Year Bests for 2007
« on: July 10, 2007, 09:42:00 am »
There's been some good records this year. I was surprised how much I ended up liking the Winehouse and Stripes discs. I could see the Monkeys disc moving up to Great, as I feel like it gets better and deeper every time I listen to it (which is how I felt about the 1st one).

 Great:
 Battles
 White Stripes
 Fratellis
 Amy Winehouse
 Arcade Fire

 Good:
 Good Bad & Queen
 Pissed Jeans
 Gallows
 1990s
 Dino Jr
 Arcade Monkeys
 Klaxons
 National
 Wilco
 Panda Bear

 Ehhhh:
 LCD SS
 Feist
 Kings of Leon
 NIN
 Shins

You have good taste, relaxer.  I agree with almost everything.  I'd move "The Good, The Bad & The Queen" record up to "great" and the Kings of Leon album up to "good" but that's nitpicking.

Clearly I haven't listened to enough 2007 music.

 The Ponys
 Radio Moscow
 Vietnam

The new White Stripes is alright.  The latter half better than the first, in my opinion.

The new Interpol sounds like Interpol, but nothing about it has grabbed me like their previous albums.

The new Burning Brides album has been a bit of a disappointment.  I bet it will sound great live, but it finds their melange of styles tilting a bit too much to the heavy-rock side (and I have nothing against heavy rock).

I haven't heard the new Spoon yet, but the Post's glowing review today has piqued my interest.

2007 is still the Year of the Disppointing Follow Ups - see the Shins, Voxtrot, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Clap Your Hands....
