I like CYHSY, and Go Team is OK, but not deserving of being on a top __ of 2005 list. M.I.A., though, is really overrated crap, second most overrated of 2005 behind Kanye West.

no pass along to someone else who has good taste in music and isn't hung up on the race and/or weight of the artist.

I don't think I know anybody that would like the terrible album that I have. My wife knew nothing of his race or weight, and she absolutely hated it when I played it for her.

yeah nobody will like the Stew records, guess those windbags over at alllmusic don't know anything about music... two four star reviews and one four and half star review.  don't bother with the Anthony and the Johnsons CDs either...

The allmusic reviews were what inspired me to blindly take a chance on him and part with $1.00. I guess my taste isn't always in line with the critics.

I've heard enough A+Johnsons to know that I wouldn't like that either.

But I suppose music is like ice cream, everyone has different tastes.

Isn't it funny that we haven't seen lists from the two posters who are so vocal in their contempt of other's opinions?

Would one of them be me? I never make up my "Best of year xxxx" until January 1 or later of year xxxx+1.

There are still a handful of albums I'd like to pick up before finalizing a list, but don't know how soon I'll get to them.

And inevitably, I often don't pick up on an album until the next year. Case in point, the last Devotchka record. Without a doubt my favorite 2004 release, but I only bought in in October 2005.

Who would the other complainer be, Guiny?

Do you mean me? I haven't put alot of thought into my list of yet. I can tell you what won't be on there: Sufjan, Kanye, New Pornographers, MIA. Give me a while.

And I can say that my tentative top 10 list has:

3 of the top 100 Amazon picks
0 of the top 50 popmatters picks
0 of the top 50 pitchfork picks

ok, i think i'm ready to play. these are my 10 favorite albums; i feel weird calling them the 10 best albums.

 1. silver jews -- tanglewood numbers
 2. the oranges band -- the world and everything in it
 3. the ponys -- celebration castle
 4. skygreen leopards -- life and love in sparrows meadow/jehovah surrender EP
 5. broadcast -- tender buttons
 6. love as laughter -- laughter's fifth
 7. electrelane -- axes
 8. art brut -- bang bang rock and roll
 9. comet gain -- city fallen leaves
 10. (the sounds of) kaleidoscope -- from where you were to how you got there

the fall peel sessions box and dylan's bootleg series volume 7 were better than all of the above. the dirtbombs comp "if you don't already have a look" is crazy good as well. the children of nuggets box and the girl group box (both on rhino) are pretty excellent listens, as well.

Actually forget mine, I left off Kid606, Alex Smoke, and a few others that should be on there. And the bottom half needs rejuggled. Wolf Parade needs to slide down a few when I really think about it.
