« on: January 19, 2005, 04:19:00 pm »
maybe no one cares, but after listening to the new APC album, i have derived that they may actually be a better band than Tool?

  what do you think?

I'll take the first 3 good responses and the first 6 smartass remarks  :)  (not counting Rhetts)

i'll be #1 in the smartass column.  not really trying to be 'smartass', but i think that tool is quite a bit over-rated.  personally not interested in apc at all.  i cant say i'm a fan of maynard.  unfortunately i did see tool live once.

Hmm...I like both bands and have seen both twice.

TOOL is great because of the excellent musicians in the band, while APC is great because of their songs. I don't think I could say one is better than the other unless it's comparing MJK's role in the band...his vocal talents are more utilized in APC, but I couldn't imagine TOOL being what it is without his voice either.

Do you have the DVD with the various videos on it? The "Bikini Bandit" stuff was just too strange. I received it as an Xmas present, but I probably wouldn't have bought it on my own.

the APC DVD?  no. I like their first disc, then didnt listen to their second one, but they have the new disc with mostly covers and a couple new songs.  thats just great.

maybe Maynard got bored with tool and now he's rejuvinated now.

I don't know...APC is such a different sound from TOOL, so I guess in that sense, it allows him the chance to branch out, but maybe not out of boredom...MJK was involved with so many different side projects a while back when TOOL was dealing with their record label contract. Most have either died off and/or nothing has come of them, most notably Tapeworm.   :(

Tool is four guys working together to create a sound and image (hell they did the animation for their videos too) while APC is the Maynard show.  Yeah that one guitarist is involved, but the rest is a revolving cast of characters.  Not the same to me.

true, APC seems to be more just Maynard. and his voice is definitely utilized more in APC.

either way, he's quite the creative musician.

their new song "Passive" is quite a winner.

indeed. they are two very different bands.

My pick is APC though. Just because of the better songs and they're not as dark as tool is.

they are both equally awesome for different reasons.  Maynard is a god.
