I know the question was asked awhile ago, but in my experience, it's been really difficult to get cabs after shows.  I've even called for cabs, and they've taken up to an hour to arrive or sometimes never came at all, and it's been through sheer luck (and a helpful staff) that I've managed to get home.  I like the venue and think they get a lot of great shows, but I've only been to a fraction of the shows I've wanted to because I just don't feel comfortable enough being able to get home as a young female, often alone, relying solely on public transportation. Up to my old tricks...I've been in the same situation: Caught downtown without cabs.  It's within the "law" to call Virginia cab companies to get a ride.  They cannot cruise downtown, but they can come get you if you call.  Cell calls are fine!  Yellow Cab (owner also owns Red Top) will come get you:  Two hour notice gets you a "timed call".  Wait time downtown WITHOUT a "timed-call" - even during rush hour - is usually no longer than 30 or so minutes after you phone 'em:  Yellow Cab 703-534-1111.
