Best and worst album you bought in 2004
« on: January 19, 2005, 06:55:00 pm »
The best album I got would be Neil Young's Greendale.

Worst album was VHS or Beta's "Night on Fire". I liked their music when saw them at the Blackcat but the album is really awful.

That Beastie Boys cd got old really quick.  The new Clutch record kicked ass.

Worst - Beautiful South, Headnodders.
 Best - Beautiful South, Headnodders.

I have really come to like the album, although I thought it was awful at first. I think I was disapointed it was just an album of covers, because Paul Heaton is one hell of a songwriter in his own right. But once I got past that it's a great album. A bit like Billy Bragg and that Mermaid avenue shit, although that was still shit after I had gotten over the fact they weren't his original songs.

Someone bought me Keane (not Roy) and I like that also.

Do you mean that the album was released in 2004, or only that you bought it in '04???  Enquiring minds want to know...

Best:  Toss up between Wilco "Ghost is Born" and Arcade Fire "Funeral"

Worst:  British Sea Power.  The first two songs are great (which were all I listened to in the store) and the rest of the album is unlistenable.

Assuming "bought" isn't a relative term:

Best: Bugge Wesseltoft - Film Ing

Worst: none - I actually listen to music before I buy it.

Assuming "bought" is a relative term meaning "acquired":

Best: The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike

Worst: The Secret Machines - Now Here Is Nowhere

Actually I dont think Ted Leo was the best, but the gomez album might well have been the worst. I like all there other albums too. Notice how one of the songs is a complete rip-off of a clash song.....

Mine was actually combining those albums with shows I saw by them this year.  I though Ted was great and the show made me enjoy the album more.  I went to gomez and was bored out of my gourd.

ouch ... that BSP disc took me a few listens to get into (i assume you're talking about their LP), but i really love it now ... their live show is second to none ... WW1 army drummer? tons of acid? hanging from the pipes at black cat?  ... awesome ....

I didn't buy anything particuarly godawful, but I was pretty disappointed with Firey Furnaces.  Just didn't catch on.

I couldn't disagree more.  Blemish was a tremendous step forward for Sylvian. He managed to make music that was dramatically different from his previous efforts without losing his identity. And the results were phenomenal.
