If you're into that sort of thing

That was a rhetorical question, right?

So Google Wallet was why Sprint sent me a Nexus S a couple weeks ago.  At first I blew off the idea of Near Field Communications (NFC) as something I didn't think would really take off (like those little key ring bank tags).  But I must say, my first two weeks with an NFC chip have been very eye opening.

For example, I have programmed NFC tags for my home and car.  When I get in my car, I touch my phone to the tag, it turns on bluetooth, set's the proper volume and sets the screen to stay illuminated when it's in its dock.  When the touch the tag when I exit, it resets to my default settings.

If you visit casa smackie, you touch your phone to the NFC chip by the light switch and it automatically turns on wifi, signs me into my SSID, and opens an app that I use most often when I get home.  It's pretty clever stuff.  Add a credit card to that and I'm stoked.

so . . . these things give you cancer, and everybody hates cancer.  they also kill bees, and everybody likes to eat food.  what do cell phones have to do for people to stop using them?

they suddenly make you impotent

all downloads somehow become illegal due to crazy transmission wave mutations

all television reception stops

jesus comes back but only half way due to some weird, invisible force field around the planet caused by cell phones

Great article.  Shea Cotton was an amazing basketball player in High School, along with Ed O'Bannon and Reggie Miller, probably the greatest high schooler I ever saw play live.  He was crap in college because he was lazy.  That's a Mater Dei trait - save for Miles Simon - that kid always hustled.

I'd put my ex-wife in the category of Mater Dei grads who bolted before their commitment was up too.  BAM!

In September, when Apple adds NFC to the iPhone 5 and it's described as revolutionary, you'll all understand why I'm so stoked to have this in my Nexus phone right now.

Engadget Primer:  What is NFC and why do we care?

These are the kind of text messages that put a smile on my face on a sloooow Tuesday afternoon:

"I have no idea why, but in your honor/for old time's sake I just walked into Archibald's..."
