Bearman....
« on: April 04, 2008, 04:45:00 pm »
Thought of you when I got this in my email. Now where the hell is the date for the states  :)

 April 4th, 2008  www.wearejames.com
 New album release
James return with their first studio album in seven years on April 7th with 'Hey Ma' which sees the powers of James undimmed.

 album for only £8.95!
 About the album
Always stood to the side of whichever fashion was in vogue throughout their long career, the eleven songs are immediately recognisable as the work of the same band but escape any sense that they are revisiting past glories.

The weaving bass lines remain delicate and strident in equal measure, guitars shine and ring with immense clarity and Tim Booth continues to subvert the notion of pop music, taking the title's track's immediate chorus to sing, 'Hey Ma', the boys in bodybags, coming home in pieces' in a warp of the anthemic chorus which, all thinking souls will hope, becomes the most popular, if least likely refrain, of the summer festivals.

Q Magazine this month proclaim; "Manchester veterans make confident comeback", "Tim Booth sounds like a singer reborn" and "Oh My Heart, is anthemic enough to be the new 'Sit Down'."

Awesome...I actually think I had a chance to see James back in the early 90's and missed them. I'm still sore that I never got to see the House of Love, Ride, and the La's. The Farm too. But I was able to check out almost every other band from around then  :)

How about we compile a list of all the definitive songs of bands from that era?

Happy Mondays -- Wrote For Luck
Stone Roses -- I Wanna Be Adored
Charlatans UK -- The Only One I Know
Inspiral Carpets -- This Is How It Feels
 Catherine Wheel -- Black Metallic
 Ride -- Vapour Trail
 Northside -- Take 5
Ned's Atomic Dustbin -- Grey Cell Green

ugh. . .not that drivel. . .i suppose "for love" would be the more popular choice, but "sweetness and light" or "de-luxe" would be just as good.

saw james in dallas on the "laid" tour. . .want to say that idaho opened up, but that may have been for the cranes (stupid memory).  the local dallas station that promoted the concert gave out free key chains after the show- great idea.

Blur - Parklife

As for james, I've been following their reunion for a while now. They've done mini tours of the UK and are just to embark on a mini European tour. It would be nice if they did a US tour but would probably not bother with S FL...nobody ever does really.

A great 9:30 gig by James: Feb 27 '97.

Did they also play an early HFStival? I think so - but some of those get blurry...Maybe the same one as the Afghan Whigs ~ Black Love era.

As long as I'm being nostalgic...

Great gig by Ned's too @ one of those Fests. A super hot day. I was crushed up close - luckily they had that RFK sectional shower going.
