The new Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy movie trailer is up on www.amazon.com's main page.

I must say that I have low expectations, as from the trailer it looks more like Men In Black 3.

I dunno the cast is perfect for the movie, and visually it will be an improvement over the Dr Whoesque BBC TV versionI've been watching courtesy Lil' Markie.

I think it's just the way the trailer's cut that is making it look like that...plus the music seems lifted out of MiB. I still have high hopes. The casting is all perfect. I think we'll see lots of conventionally lame trailers since british humor has a hard time having major mainstream success in the states and a film needs that in order to cover its costs.

Anyway, I think the movie will be good based on Blur's Coffee and TV video alone (done by Hammer & Tongs).

Is Arthur Dent even British in this version?

agreed they need to sell it to the people who like MIB type movies and buy merchandise.  kosmette already wants a Marvin action figure and she loves hitchikers guide.

Yes, He's played by the actor who so brilliantly played Tim the mopey forlorn character on The Office.  He is so very perfect for the roll.  As is Sam Rockwell as Zaphod and Alan Rickman is voicing Marvin.

Here is a very good interview with the 'other' screenwriter, Karey Kirkpatrick, talking about the process of developing the film after Douglas Adams died.  He says that he was very faithful to Douglas' SCREENPLAY, that is, what Douglas wanted the film to be - and we all know that Douglas liked to tinker, A LOT.  I think the preview looks like what DA would have wanted.  And I'm comforted by this quote from KK:

But I think people, especially die-hard HHGG fans, will be happy to see that it is very much the same story as the radio play, the book, and the TV series with all the well-known and beloved scenes, characters and concepts. Arthur, Ford, Trillian, Zaphod, Marvin, Eddie, Vogons, Slartibartfast, Deep Thought, Lunkwill & Fook, the mice, whales, petunias, dolphins, 42, even Gag Halfrunt; all present and accounted for.

I actually like the cheesiness of the original BBC series. It was like a cross between Monty Python and Dr Who. But I *am* looking forward to this movie. I'll ignore the trailers, etc and just watch it without any preconceived notions.

REALLY looking forward to seeing Spamalot in NYC. It opens Mar 17!!!!
