So they're saying if you drink more than once a week your going to assualt/ or get sexually assualted? Whoa watch out for those guys.

This is just more bullshit. Watch out, if they drink more than once a week, they're gonna cause havoc on the city if they don't find a rape victim in time.

This guys saying that college kids shouldn't get drunk in front of other people. I guess its okay if you get drunk by yourself though. Thats called alcoholism. Or as I like to call it 'me time.'

"my advice to you, is to start drinking heavily"

"When you drink, you're also at risk because of other people's drinking. My message to college students is don't get drunk and don't hang out with anyone who gets drunk. Drunk isn't funny. Drunk puts you at risk for burns, falling out of windows, sexual assault, and car crashes. If you feel dizzy, you've already had too much," lead researcher Dr. Mary Claire O'Brien,
It's pretty amazing that the person who made this statement calls herself a scientist.  The study was specifically about the behavior of frat and sorority people, and from that she comes up with all these sweeping generalizations based on that.

Even simpler than that is her refutation of some of the basic principles of humanity.  "Drunk isn't funny?"  Drunk is fucking hilarious!

Good point!  She's obviously not familiar with this standard of drunken hilarity:

you know, i think you summed up everything wrong with kids today when you noted that kids aren't listening to ac/dc anymore. . .where are the new van halen or ac/dc. . .where are the rawk bands?  i mean, sure, peaches wants to take us to a rock show, and andrew w.k. just wants to party, but where are the bands that rawk?

It brings a tear to my eye when watching things like the 100 Most Metal Moments, because an era really has ended.  As much as AWK rawks, you know he's slamming Gatorade and energy bars after a show.

That's the one reason I always had a soft spot for people Kid Rock as personalities.  Sure, their music is awful, but at least they tried to resurrect the debauchery that (should) go with rock music.

I was reading somewhere that the youth of today are increasingly into old-skool stuff like the Stones and Led Zeppelin and Foreigner.  If this is true, maybe the dearth of rawk is to explain for this odd phenomenon.

You actually have a pretty good point there.  I know it's been said somewhere else, but it amazes me that they don't get commercial airplay...

i'd be interested in discussing this a bit more ... i remember reading in rolling stone that DBT got booed pretty consistently through the south when they were playing bars/small clubs, and i really just don't understand why people who are into mainstream country-rock (toby keith, whatever) don't get into DBT ... is it just lack of exposure?  does CMT or country radio play DBT?  i've played DBT for every (guy, because, let's admit it, DBT is a dude-band) i know who listens to mainstream country, and every one of them has really loved DBT and asked me to burn a CD for them ... it's really just strange that more people who listen to more mainstream styles of their music don't know about them

No, they are not played on CMT or country radio.

Why do they not get more exposure? Could it be that they are on New West Records, and not some major label? None of the New West bands get any mainstream radio play, despite their seemingly mainstream sound.

with most of modern nashville, you have to have an image, and DBT's image doesn't work with modern nashville.  if this were the 70s, they wouldn't even be on country stations, they'd be on rock stations.  in sum, it's all about the market, and, for curb or sony or whoever, DBT doesn't have a market.  i mean. . .the "o brother" soundtrack won how many grammies for best country, but you still won't hear it played on country radio (although, maybe on an AM station- i hear those are coming back)
