Smackie..maybe Americans don't care...but I can vouch for the Cubans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans and Venezuelans...this is bigger than Olympics for us..finally we get to showcase our talent at our own "World Cup" if you will...everyone home is glued to everygame...even when our team isn't playing...
I am not a baseball fan, but yesterday at home watched part of the Cuba Puerto Rico game and found it to be much more interesting game than a Yankees Red Sox game in the MLB finals or conference finals wherever it is that they meet.
Fico, de que areas del pais son la mayoria de jugadores? Santo Domingo, San Pedro, Santiago... alguna zona en particular de donde salgan los mejores jugadores? [/b]
Barcelona, it has really evolved with the years... back in the 80s it was mostly all about shortstops and infielders...most of them from San Pedro de Macoris (Pedro Guerrero, Tony Fernandez, Jorge Bell, Sammy Sosa, etc..)..the Dodgers and Blue Jays were the first teams to really establish proper academies...
A lot of the new batch of players which includes a lot of power players hail from Santo Domingo, San Cristobal and outskirts such as Haina, Manoguayabo, etc... I'd say it's about 70% Santo Domingo/San Pedro with the rest from all around..
And I agree about the following and intensity the games have...my grandma is forcing herself to take naps in the afternoon so she can stay awake till midnight to watch the games...my grandma is not one to show much emotions and she cracked to tears today when she talked about the loss to Cuba yesterday...
