Woops, my bad.

Then Black Cat.  I know, obvious, but the numbers don't lie.  Though, like bellenseb, I was hoping DC9 would come along this year.  I wish Elf Power had played there rather than Velvet Lounge...

Iota's pretty great when I go, too.  Great space, good sound, cool vibe.  Gotta give props to Iota.

My fave club overall would have to be the Black Cat, for its hang-out ness.  For seeing bands, I like the more intimate places... Iota, DC9.

Warehouse Nextdoor has been a great contribution to the DC music scene. They're a stable venue for a variety of music and their lax security has been the crux for lots of underage drinking.

i don't think that because it got some of the larger acts that it's the venue of the year.
i think the place sucks regardless of who's there and i'm going out of my way to avoid the place in the future.
such as my seeing the pixies in norfolk instead of dc.

I'd definitely vote for the Black Cat. You can easily get up close to the acts. The sound system and acoustics are pretty good. Even when a Black Cat show sells out, it's never as annoyingly crowded as a sold-out 9:30 Club show. I also think they've had some of the best acts that have come through DC this year: The Gossip, The Decemberists, TV on the Radio, Stellastar*, The Killers, Mission of Burma, and Beulah, just to name a few of the excellent acts that have played the Black Cat this year. And when you get hot from dancing, you can stand right under the air conditioning vent to cool down. I even like their food!

Yeah - I'd have to go with the Black Cat. Very cool bartenders, decent sound and sightlines, close to Metro, good food nearby, great bands play there.

I really dig the Velvet Lounge, too, but I don't like the fact that they have the bands and the bar on two different floors.

I would have to say my basement totally kicks ass.

Other than that I'm fond of the gato de negro, Iota and the Velvet.

ha, i'd feel guilty about this, but i don't since almost every person who comes to my shows is over 21.

it looks like the warehouse is five years ahead of its time. the velvet lounge? c'mon, how many interesting shows has that place had in the last couple of years?

They've had a few good ones this year, in particular, Bad Wizard with Brant Bjork & the Bros.
