New Year's Eve events?
« on: November 30, 2004, 11:04:00 pm »
So what's a white guy to do for NYE this year?  Versus isn't playing in New York this year so it looks like I'll be staying local.  Does anyone know anything about the Taxidermy Lodge thing at Sonar or anything else going on?  Hmmmmmmmmmm!

Brothers past are playing at the TLA in Philly if you're into the improvised electronic music thing. That's where i'd really like to go if i can score a ride up.

the Taxidermy lounge will also be an Ultraworld party which (i think) means that in the Sonar club they will be doing Tax-Lo which is indie dance/80s/new wave stuff....and in the warehouse next door, full on club techno beats.

should be fun, me and the woman are 99% going....unless i can find 2 cheap flights to Key West, FL.   :)

sonar.us will have more details probably in a week or two.

That description almost makes me wanna go, I've heard good things about Sonar as Sonick probably already guessed. But I'm getting lazy at my old age and don't feel like dealing with the traffic/crowds. Someday we'll have to meet up there though.

yeah, friday nights there are cool.   it will be a zoo there on NYE but normal fridays arent too crazy crazy.

its a great club though, nice and roomy, great sound and the crowd is the friendliest in Bmoreland.

i'm going to the flaming lips / wilco in nyc.
it promises to be much better than the flaming lips / white stripes in chicago last year.

a friend of mine is going to that.  do you know how its working? i mean, is it just like a normal show? or can you wander the venue and do other special New Years Eve-like things.

seems really cool, but i dont know about spending NYE in one seat all night.

Here is the link

So, I found this.... $15 cant be beat.

Looks like its going to be mostly electronic/dance music in the Warehouse/Concert Hall which holds about 500 people.  The "Club" looks to be a bit of a hodge-podge.....dance/80s/indie what not, and the lounge looks to be more 80s/funk/silly party music.

the place holds over 1000 and i am now kicking myself in the ass for ending employment with the club when they moved to thier bigger venue.....

i would assume that it's just a normal show with wilco playing when the new year starts.  i wouldn't be doing anything interesting if i weren't going to this show, so sitting in a seat (or standing) and watching a show really isn't a big deal to me.
