Tosca Thoughts?
« on: December 05, 2005, 01:18:00 pm »
I don't know about anyone else but I thought there'd be a live show (with interaction between Huber and Dorfmeister) then a dj set following that. It seems as though the bulk of the show was made up of the dj set and the interaction between both musicians was minimal at best. Dorf's a hell of a dj and  definitely rips it up on the turntables but I was personally expecting more of a live show. Still had a good time so I guess I can't complain.

not a big fan of their tapas...I'd recommend Taberna del Alabardero or Jaleo...

I did preview.  And I welcomed the length and girth.

stay away from mie n yu in georgetown.  horrible.  as well as buca di beppo in dupont.  equally as horrible, and with with bitchy, troll waiters.

The men's bathroom at Buca di Beppo is a nightmare. The baby urinating on his mother's breasts really goes beyond tasteless as well. Whatever you do, avoid that place like the plague.

i gotta agree, i didn't dislike the dj part of the evening but i thought there'd be more downtempo stuff like what you hear on thier albums....still loved the show though...

question:  i totally didn't hear who was the guy playing the keyboard at the beginning of the show..who was he?  i really liked his stuff and hope there is more of it out there!!

Having made the same mistake myself once, if you pay good money to go watch some knob play his records then expect to be watching some knob play his records when you go in, because that's what dj's do.

As for Bupa Di Beppo.....I went there on numerous occasions, and could never find my way to the loos, place is like a fucking labarynth!!!! Food below average..

My take on the Tosca show. Great visual set up. The curved projection screens made the 930 look like some euro-trash night club but it really added to the show. A somewhat unruly, talkative crowd when the opening guy was working the keyboards was a downer. But then there was a pretty good three hour set (no break) by Dorfmeister and friends. I'd say the floor was comfortably full for dancing. A sellout like the Thievery shows earlier this year would have been too tight. It was a good pace how they cycled between him spinning a few songs then bringing on the vocals for a few, back and forth. Dormeister definitely can spin, at least half the crowd seemed to be dancing. There was too much dub/reggae mixed near the end, but I guess that is the new thing. Thought the single song encore tibute to Lennon as cool though. When is the last time a DJ gets called back out for an encore?

The last time the kids were at a party and didn't want it to end after last orders.
