Good Charlotte, Green Day Get Ready To 'Rock Against Bush'

(9/23/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- Good Charlotte, Green Day, Sum 41, and several other punk rock bands will contribute songs to an album titled Rock Against Bush, which will be released through indie label Fat Wreck Chords next April or May. Green Day will donate a new song, but the other bands have not announced yet whether they'll submit new or previously released material.

Fat Wreck Chords president Fat Mike--who also sings for the punk band NOFX--says he wanted to use his influence in the punk rock world to campaign directly against George Bush, telling MTV.com, "I think it's our responsibility as citizens and musicians to do so. He's wrecking the country and the world...I'm planning on losing a lot of money, but I don't care. This is something I really believe in."

Two tours--one around the release of the album and the other closer to next year's presidential election--are also in the planning stages, most likely to consist of free concerts on college campuses. The tour will probably be named Punkvoter, after Fat Mike's political awareness organization.

Money from sales of the album will go into print and television ads encouraging young people to vote Bush out of the White House. Fat Mike told MTV.com he hopes to have "one or two famous punk rockers" appear in the ads.

but will anyone of these acts be able to write lyrics which saying anything more than bush sucks lather repeat rinse?  the nofx song was pretty catchy but a whole record of that would defeat the purpose.  it's too bad joe strummer is gone, i'd beat he would have some thing intelligent and stirring to say on the matter.

Isn't the point that they are trying to raise awareness, and trying to get a younger generation (of notoriously apathetic voters) to actually vote? Who cares if it's dumb-asses against Bush, as long as it's the right cause, and they don't do more harm then good, any level of awareness and attention is good.

Kudos to them i say...i won't buy the record, but hopefully someone will.

Not a great fan of their music, but I completely support them. Get younger people to the polls and get rid of this arrogant man? that's a great thing to do. At least they don't sing about irrelevant things.

And now Bush asking for help at the UN. First he needs to acknowledge mistakes and please get rid of the arrogance of these conservative americans.

Amen Redsock...just because he's our President doesn't mean we have to agree with him.  I know some people don't like bands or musicians to be political, but so much of the great music of the 1960's was political or at least motivated/inspired by the events of the world. Not that ALL of that music was good...but there was a lot of talent in many of those bands. I say if you have a voice, use it.

Don't you mean "...those conservative Americans"? [/b]
If "these" applies to all Americans, then I meant "those" (assuming that "those" applies to a some of them). I referred to that minority (I hope it's a minority) in the right who accuse of un-patriotic all those who criticize the current administration's foreign policy.

The current government in Spain? Calling them arrogant is not enough, they were all huge supporters of Franco's dictatorship. The current government of Spain decided to support Bush on Irak even when 85% of the country was opposed to the war. You are right, huge arrogants and not very democratic people!

Complete waste of time...all this will do is get all the hipsters to vote for the hipsters candidate..NADER, which is really only a vote for Dubya when all said and done. I admire their conviction though.

While this is a good idea in theory, I highly doubt that any of the members of these bands know jack about politics.  At least get Bad Religion or somebody else of substance on board so that it doesn't smack of adolescent tantrums.
