This is not about eMusic

Jane Siberry has an interesting approach to distributing her music via the web called Self-Determined Transactions.  Under this plan one has the choice of

 1. No cost Guilty Free downloads
 2. Self Determined (pay now)
 3. Self Determined (pay later after listening)
 4. Standard (.99 going rate)

right now the percentages of what people are paying since it went live in Jan is

 Pricing Statistics

 Accepting gift from Jane   19%
 Paid by determining price   40%
 Paying Later   41%

 Of those paying
 Avg Price Per Track   $1.17
 Paid Below Suggested   9%
 Paid At Suggested   81%
 Paid Above Suggested   12%

I actually think this is interesting way of letting people buy direct for an artist, especially as albums go out of print.

Interesting! I've always rather liked Jane Siberry and already own most of her albums, but maybe I'll use this to fill in some gaps. It's a shame she isn't more well known and appreciated here in the U.S.

She's got a new fan in me!

I'm checking out her music simply to support the model.
