I've given them a dollar or two this past summer.  I'll be there in all my splendor.  Got tix for D.C., the Garden on Halloween, & if it wasn't for me DJing on November 3rd & Morrissey the night before here In D.C., I wouldn't be getting ready to sell my A.C. ticket.  3 shows already, 2 coming up, I'm thinking 6 may be greedy. But fuck it.  May do it anyway.  You only live once.

If one decided to buy a single "cheap" ticket for these shows, (pre-service fees) that would come to $299 total.  If one decided to buy a single good seat to these shoes (pre-service fees) that would come to $694.

Who do they think can afford this kind of stuff??
Concerts aren't ALL songs & drinks.  If you want killer seats, you gotta pay to play, baby.  You're talking about 4 certified legends & one of the biggest selling groups of all time.  I'm not a lawyer, nor would I consider myself rich yet chances are I'm gonna be at 4 out of those 5 shows.  If someone told you one of the best times of your life was gonna cost you a couple hundred bucks, wouldn't you pay??  Concerts aren't just drinks & sing-alongs or hours of nostalgia for baby boomers to some people, fam.  I suscribe to the theory that concerts are an investment in one's happiness.

3/5 of those bands are little more than nostalgia acts, though.

I see what you're saying, but I'd rather invest my money in my home and my retirement account.   ;)

I know, I know. However, was it the time of your life? I mean some are saying they wish they never went to the Police shows - are they improving any? I'm willing to pay but for two tickets at $500+ - I'm not so sure my friends would be willing to pay me back and I can get a trip to LA and much more for that...and I like it more when money comes or is available.  :)  I think I'm nixing the Police - just a bit over my price limit.

I'm good with that.  More floor seats for me.

And for the record, The Police shows have gotten better for me each time.  I thought Bonnaroo was good/solid, but far from groundbreaking.  Hershey & VFest were a different story, however.  THAT was some powerful shit, & I don't tend to exaggerate, which is why I'm so picky with shows.  I talked to a bunch of people at VFest that weren't coming to see The Police, & thought they were amazing. Some people on this board slammed it.  It is what it is. I like to call it my "salmon theory".  Some swim against the stream simply just to fuckin' do it.

Just remember.  30 million people in the U.S. bought Britney Spears albums, & other than gyrating (not to be an underestimated gift by any means) she has no discernable talent to speak of.  I say all that to say this.  Don't put stock into the opinions of the public.  They're not always right.  And don't place your faith into the opinions of (mostly) hipsters.  Some girl here actually said Interpol was better live than The Police.  I've seen Interpol live.

 Fuck no.

Hey Director:

Why not take all that money and musical focus you spend on Police and other mainstream shows and spend it on innumerable shows at small venues like Black Cat, Iota, Rock and Roll Hotel, etc? Wouldn't it be cooler to see bands when they are young and vital, before they become nostalgia acts, like the Police? Or before they water down and sell out, like Rilo Kiley? And don't knock the hipsters. I'll bet hipsters were the first people to listen to the Police, and Rilo Kiley.

Really hope you are right. However, i haven't seen it billed as Misfits songs anywhere except on this messageboard. Danzig's website only has it him with Doyle's band opening. In fact, Danzig makes it a point to say that he will be playing songs from his new solo album. But no where does it say, "Misfits Songs."

I realize Rilo is watered down compared to their past albums.  (The new album's funky, so that's the main reason I dig it.)  I am familiar with some of their older material, I was just never really moved to explore them until recently.  And seeing as I was in kindergarten, it would be hard for me to have seen The Police then.  I have "indie acts" I see/love as well.  My musical taste is a little more cultured/off the wall than most, so I don't tend to tip my hand all the time.  No point in talking about it if no one cares/wants to learn.  You just know what you see here.  Anyone that's ever met me knows how I get down.

Simply Rhett, I am a fan of good music.  Period.  Whether it's moved 10,000 or 1 million, I'll like it if it's good, quality music.  Please also keep in mind, that I have to stay on top of a BUNCH of genres (aside of being a music freak, I DJ as well), whereas most (not all) here stick to indie rock.  There's only so much I can catch (I catch a nice amount) before it hits the surface.

I think a nice percentage of people here, NOT ALL OF YOU (won't name names) hate anything that'll fill a venue outside of the size of 9:30/Black Cat.  That shit is disgusting to me.  On the flipside of that, as we all know not all groups that move units are talented or great.  As well as some groups that don't sell for a reason cause they fuckin' suck.  Some groups don't get the attention/sales they deserve, while others get far too much.  Good music & great groups can come from anywhere whether they can fill The Meadowlands, Verizon, 9:30 or even DC9 or your local watering hole.

Okie dokie. Would be interested in more often hearing your take on the various indie and other nonmainstream acts of other genres you listen to and see. Reading about the Police on this board for the 8 millionth time gets a bit tedious.   ;)

Precisely. I think the disdain is more for larger venues that weren't built with providing for the best acoustics in mind (verizon center) rather than the bands that grow to be big enough to play them.
