Wait... something has to be recognized by 99% of society or it's "obscure?" That bar seems set ridiculously high. I bet if you polled 1000 people at random you're going to get more then 1% who have never heard of Bruce Springsteen, U2, Tom Brady, LeBron James, or John McCain and those things are hardly obscure.
