So, I'm in a bad mood and feel the need to complain about something, so...

I own Dance of Days, great book. But does it -- and really do we -- need more on the same bands? DC has such a romanticism on its musical past. How bout doing something interesting now? Anything? Nothing against the authors here, we all need to make a living and both of these guys have contributed a lot to this city, but why is it so little has come out to talk about over the last 15 to 20 years? Was Fugazi's The Argument really it? I mean, is anyone in this city doing anything worth talking about, much less write a book about?

Well, neither am I anymore. So who am i to be bitching. Stupid soapbox...

I think that's where I'll be, too. Pretty sure I'm done with RNRH for good now.

What's the issue with the R+R Hotel? Other than having drinks there, I haven't been to a show there since basically it opened, is it an awful place to see a show or what?

My main gripe is the sound which is doomed to be piss-poor forever.

It's run by a group of idiots who refuse to invest any money into making it a decent venue.

They've also been known to have shorted artists in the past.

this is totally off topic - perhaps we should have an RnR Hotel gripe thread?  I have plenty!  The bar upstairs is one of my favorite bars in the city, but as a music venue it is one of my least favorites anywhere.

- horrible sound, always too loud & distorted
- stage is too low
- it's a long narrow room
- join the previous two together = poor sight-lines unless you're at the very, very front (less than 20% of the crowd will have a decent view)
- lack of ventilation, gets hotter than hell

The poor sound I'm sure depends on the performer as well. I feel like a louder/heavier band would sound awful there. I guess I'll find out this week!

DAR isn't too bad when you're attending an event in which electric guitars are not used.
