It is funny how one Letterman appearance blows a band up.

I really don't get it. They're an OK band, I enjoyed their set at The Camel in Richmond about a month before that. Then he danced funny on Letterman and all of a sudden Future Islands became the de facto indie vanguard. Their potential attendance at concerts increased 8 to 10-fold overnight.

Yep.  And, not even from one of their better albums.  The new one is just ok.  The one before, great.  The one before that, perfect. 

They are really nice guys.  I always see them at random Baltimore shows when they are not touring.  They deserve everything they get.  They have worked over a decade to "make it overnight."

They are really nice guys. 

They do seem that way. My friend I went with had seen them once before and had introduced himself and they remembered him and his name, and did tequila shots with him. (Julian does not abide prole hispanic liquor.) No one else was even really coming up to them at the bar during the openers, there was maybe 120 there. Two months later, after the Letterman thing, that scene would literally be unbelievable. Just wacky.
