Ted Leonsis bringing the AFL to Verizon Center in 2017:
"As a fan of both sports and entertainment, you want to watch great programming whenever and wherever you are. We live in a “Super City”, one of four in North America and only 10 in the world. As the most wired city in the United States, Washington, D.C., is a community that spans Virginia, D.C. and Maryland and is now approaching a population of 10 million people, including the most millennials per capita.
So it’s exciting to announce the relaunch of Monumental Network to Monumental Sports Network (MSN), as well as the acquisition of an as-yet unnamed Arena Football League (AFL) team that will debut in spring 2017 at Verizon Center. Both will offer new and exciting entertainment and content for our community.
The AFL team will join eight other teams in the dual-conference league that was founded in 1987. On Wednesday, March 16, we’ll be hosting a news conference at Verizon Center and streaming it live on Monumental Sports Network starting at 12 p.m. Please tune in as we talk about our newest team to join the Monumental Sports & Entertainment family and to get further details on the new AFL team.
Monumental Sports Network’s relaunch extends our content and programming across desktop, tablet, and mobile web, as well as to mobile and OTT applications. Content will now truly be available anytime and anywhere, with Monumental Sports Network launching apps for iOS, Android, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Google Chromecast.
The platform includes a new logo, new look and new features to enhance the fan experience including a new video player, photo galleries, downloadable calendars and customizable features. Our motto is simple: “Your sports. Wherever. Whenever.” For a sneak peek, check out the promotional video.
With the Network featuring more than 20 websites, blogs and affiliate sites, it is the region’s source for exclusive and original sports content for the DMV. We are also the first platform to stream Washington Mystics games live and plan to stream future AFL games. MSN will broadcast Mystics, AFL and other sports, while Caps and Wizards games will remain on CSN Mid-Atlantic. Join us in celebrating the AFL team acquisition and the new Monumental Sports Network as we continue to provide our fans and our community the best in sports programming.
Your sports. Wherever. Whenever.
Ted"
