8.5.05 | Iggy And The Stooges Headline Bumbershoot Mainstage Monday Night!
Iggy and The Stooges, the legendary band that many credit for kick starting the punk rock, garage rock, and heavy metal movements, will join the Bumbershoot lineup and headline Monday night??s Mainstage show!
Originally formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Stooges recorded three seminal albums ?? The Stooges, Fun House, and Raw Power ?? before disbanding in 1973. Iggy??s onstage antics and the raw, unrefined sound of the band made them an underground sensation, but the band was considered too weird and too dangerous to break into the mainstream. However, the legend and the cult following of the band continued to grow even after they parted ways, and new bands took up where the trailblazing Stooges left off. Iggy Pop has pursued a successful solo career, releasing [now] classic albums such as The Idiot and Lust For Life, and in 2003 he organized a Stooges reunion. He recruited original Stooges Ron and Scott Asheton to perform four songs on his album Skull Ring, and they hit the road for a short but enthusiastically received tour. With Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE) standing in for the late Dave Alexander, the reunion of Iggy and The Stooges is giving fans of all generations a chance to witness their legendary ??raw power? in real life.
