I liked them, but they were a very niche band to begin with and don’t feel history has been to kind to them.  It’s not like they are bauhaus or some band that influenced tons of other bands
I thought the lyric was a big venue when they announced this, I felt like they were. state theater kind of act

And even Bauhaus canceled their US dates due to poor sales….

When bands disappear for decades sometimes the comeback works but often they lose their fans. Simple Minds comes to mind…

Now a band like the Cult keep coming back around year after year so they keep their fanbase…

In their day, the cult was playing Madison Square Garden, so they have a pretty big fan base
plus they've been touring pretty regularly for the past 10? years and putting on great shows

I don't think these guys (or Bauhaus) ever really made it out of the clubs

Bauhaus...they have legendary status, but always thought the Anthem was too big for them
They would have been a likely sell out at the Filmore

Edit, I didn't remember that the Cult Headlined the Anthem recently

I still think the Roxy Music tour was crazy that they were playing such big venues
I'm very curious about the bottom line on that tour.  I guess they were charging like $1000 for those front rows maybe helped?

I was hopeful for a second this was a Dinosaur Jr show then disappointed to discover it was not then intrigued to learn it involves Paul Scheer, Jason Manzoukis, and Rob Huebel all of whom I like, then disappointed to discover it’s improv comedy which is the lowest form of entertainment.

Bauhaus' American fanbase expanded exponentially after they broke up. By the time they decided to take a stateside victory lap, their fans had mostly aged out of concert going.

The Cult was always more commercial, especially Electric. Their heyday was during the mid-80s first commercial burst of "alternative" (when it was "college rock"), right on time to build a substantial and enduring fanbase.

Sisters of Mercy were always a niche act in the states. Hooking up with Jim Steinman gave them a substantial boost but mostly in Europe.

Sam Cooke - Harlem Club

Sam really was the greatest. Something about his singing makes me feel alive. Rod Stewart copped absolutely
 everything from Sam.

What a catastrophic loss Sam’s murder was….thank Jesus though that this live recording exists. Transcendent. Always gives me goosebumps. That’s King Curtis on sax.
