I like to travel, and would like to do more trips outside of this country. But I am afraid that planes, aren't as safe anymore, and crazy things seem to happen on flights at a level beyond the sometimes drunk person that I was used to.

Is that, ridiculous? And are cruises, really worth it? I follow a group that go on multiple cruises a year on upscale lines where you can get discounted cabins at booking with them. I would love, to finally go on one.
I’m a huge fan of planes personally  and love flying overseas. OTOH, a cruise will always feel to me like “an elderly couple’s vacation” and I have no desire to do one. But different strokes for different folks.

Statistically, planes are still much safer than automobile travel. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of planes, but they're a means to an end. I feel the same about cruises. Maybe an Alaskan or Antarctic cruise might be different as the might get you somewhere you can't go in a car?

I guess an Antarctic cruise might be my one exception I’d consider.

I’ve done Alaska via plane with multiple short haul hops around to towns without roads. Was a blast. My parents just did similar this summer.

don't worry, MAGA will continue to stoke those unfounded fears, and before you know it trump will deploy the national guard on all flights!  you'll be so safe, with only minor loss of rights!  but we'll all be great again!!!111

cruises: i'm also generally against them, but would also consider an alaska cruise (seems the vibe and crowd would be very different from, say, a 20,000 person disney carribean cruise).  for me, the issue with cruises is being trapped, or feeling trapped: you can't get away from a cruise and the people on it.  a 8'x6' cabin isn't an escape, it's a cell.

I know some cruise couples and they always go “Europe? The hotel rooms are so small over there” and I just stare mouth agape.
