Yeah! What I want is bands that come with a manifesto. I'm fucking sick of bands who only have an image. They're clear about who they are, as well: Track three is called "A Panther is a Motherfucker." I mean, call me an old punk, but this sort of stuff- stuff that declares that this is year zero and everything needs to be redone-it's needed right now. And they're smart enough to add a quote from James Brown: "People, we've got to get over before we go under." I'm the wrong generation for this kind of music, and yet it strikes a chord with me more than anything else. Twenty-five years ago in my country, a band recorded a song called "God Save the Queen," and the entire country went into a convulsion of anger. I just wish every generation could feel how I felt as a 19 year old when that happened. And that wasn't the first time for something like that. When Elvis came along in the '50's, he kicked a hole in it too.

Ugh.  I didn't even think about them, since I consider them neither punk nor important.

Triple, FUCKING YAY!!!!!!!!!

I thought I was going to have to drive to Philly to see the national again.

Is it this Alsaka? There are 6 on allmusic.

Imaad Wasif was touring with Lowercase when he met Russell Pollard in 1999. Pollard was playing withSebadoh at the time, and the two became fast friends. Within a year, Pollard and Wasif left their respective bands and recovened in San Francisco to form Alaska. The duo derived an icy cool, layered indie rock sound. Shows with Mia Doi Todd, the Folk Implosion, the Flaming Lips, and Beachwood Sparks allowed Alaska to test their material. By 2002, Alaska had a deal with B-Girl Records. Their debut album, Emotions, was released in February 2003 and former Red Aunts drummer Lesley Ishinojoined them for a North American tour.

Yes, it is.

I have a friend who use to play guitar in Lowercase. Coincidentally, his birthday is today. He's still friends with Imaad and keeps in touch with him. Alaska! are very good and I highly recommend the show. A little on the laid back side and should be well-suited for the Backstage. The song Broken is my favorite of their's and is one that I can play on repeat without getting tired of it too easily.

Not sure if this had been announced, but Death Cab for Cutie seem to be playing at the 9:30 on April 4.

As for Grandaddy, besides the other two bands already mentioned, a band called "Dios" will be playing as well. Not sure who they are, fuck I am an ignorant.
