Belle and Sebastian, Son Volt, Robbie Fulks, Richard Hawley, Okkervill River, and tons of other good acts for free in NYC (Maybe they could get some of these people to play Millenium Stage, Hoya?):

great idea, or maybe we could just move from a city of about 500,000 people and a metro area of under 5,000,000 people to a city, widely known as one of the cultural capitals of the world, with over 8,000,000 people and with a metro area of more than 21,000,000 people

Or you could just move to one of the "Smartest Places to Live":

I saw them a couple years ago. Worst concert ever. Mostly new stuff (at the time, DOTG), but they were completely disinterested, and E didn't even seem like he knew the band was there. Ugh.

Thanks for replying.  Yeah, I could see how that could be the case.  That's too bad.  I do love those albums though.  They can be very cathartic at times.

If you're going to use poulation count as your criteria, DC should have 25% the amount of free shows by name bands that NYC does. I'd be satisfied with that.

Hell, Pittsburgh has a nice freebie concert series. I guess they have a lot more people there, too.

It's just been announced that Apples in Stereo will be opening this show.

I know it said "The Strokes with special guests The Secret Machines" when I bought tix, but I don't see any mention of it on either band's website. Are TSM really playing?

I got my info from the promoter/radio station. I assumed they knew what they were talking about.

Well, it still does say Secret Machines when you go to  buy tickets. But I think it's just kinda weird that it doesn't appear on TSM tour list or on any other concert list. Had a feeling this was too good to be true...
