I was already interested in this, but the fact that Apes are opening seals the deal. The new Apes singer (assuming he's still with them) is just electric.

Really?  I thought he was pretty terrible at the Oneida show.  The new EP (his first recorded material with the band) isn't half bad though.

Did you ever see them with the original singer?  Talk about electric!

aids wolf kind of sucks. at least their recently released album does. i don't know much else about them. they are not as good as peanut butter wolf or wolf eyes but may be better than wolfmother. i haven't heard wolf parade so i can't say much about that. same with we are wolves. don't know if they are any good. i do like that this is the year of the wolves. last year it was the year of the mice and last year sucked. wolves are cooler than mice. just look at balto. anyway, aids wolf is a terrible name with a not-so-good sound.

3WK.com played a song by some band called Faceless Werewolves a little earlier but I was in the other room and missed it so can't tell you yet what they sound like.

I like The Field Mice but they've been around for way over a year. In fact, for over a decade.

Well, there have been a couple singers. I saw them a year or so ago, I think opening up for DMBQ or maybe the no-show Voxtrot show at DC9 where they had (what I remember as) a fairly standard issue hipster guy.

But then I saw them at the Black Cat a couple months ago (I think opening for Liars) and their new singer looked like a cross between Urkle and Pharrell Williams and he was incredible. Great moves, great voice, and the band clearly was on a high with the new vibe.

That's the singer I never saw...he was only around for a year tops.  Their original singer was incredible; he just fit in perfectly well with their whole vibe.

The new guy just might take some getting used to.  Like I said, on record he's great.  I'm holding out hope that it was just sound issues that made him painful the first time I saw him.  He seemed to be turning his mic up awful loud, and it was just distracting to the ass-kicking that the rest of the band lays down.

Of course, all of this is probably me just refusing to adapt.  I've been seeing the Apes since 2002 or so, and still listen to their first two albums and EPs pretty regularly.  Plus, it didn't help the new guy's cause that they didn't play any older material.  Oh well...I guess we'll see at the Slits show.

I saw the Nethers there last week.  The venue is tiny and the sound wasn't the best, but it was a fun little place, I enjoyed it.  Unfortunatly, it's a pain to get too without a car.  It's easy enough to take a taxi there, but trying to find a taxi late at night with 12 other groups of people looking for a cab, it can take a while.  We had to wait at least 35 min to flag down a cab, and that was after calling all the cab companies's.  I hear that a light rail or service is in the works, which would be great.
