ahh... maybe.  definitely risking overexposure, given that they played with franz ferdinand at the same venue earlier this year (and FF totally stole the show, not that DCFC wasn't good).

Precisely --  money that does NOT go to the venue.       ;)

And each underage person not only doesn't spend money on booze, but displaces a person who would (or at least might).

Betty, I'm sorry, but this "entitled to listen to live music" is just insane, I gotta say.  Then hire the band to play at your house.  Venues are not yet public institutions funded by tax money.  Thank GOD.  You get so many opportunities in D.C., I think there's a lot to be thankful for.  Plus, you have 30 - 40 years of seeing bands after you turn 18 and/or 21.  Lots and lots of music can be in your life.... [/b]
Plus, the comments about running or booking a club not being hard?

You need to ask if you can go to work w/ an employee of a club for "bring your teenage show-goer to work day".
redsock - there are a few that take merch cuts. [/b]
Umm, I definitely did NOT say it was easy to run a venue.  One of my best friends semi-ran a venue immediately after he got out of high school.  He worked his bottom off.
I DID say that it isn't that difficult (not easy, but not that difficult) to open shows for all ages.  Having kids at shows isn't stopping those over 21 from drinking, and while they might be taking up the space of those who are paying for drinks, they are still paying the cover...so raise the cover charge one or two dollars and it'll even out...

really?  i've never had huge complaints about DAR.  i've never sat too far back so maybe sound quality degrades as you get towards the back of the room (reflection).  i was front and center for the foos, the fills a few feet away were very mid'y (and a tad loud) but the overall effect was acceptable.  DCFC's last show was decent-sounding as far as i remember.

what totally sucks is mci/verizon - ouch.  you're either deaf from being right on top of the sound system, or you hear pure distortion and reflections from the other 80% of the venue.  absolutely horrible.  i know, i know, sports arenas weren't made to host loud musical events, if you're not happy stay the fuck home, yadda yadda...
