Thing is, though, I think most of us are snobs about the main-est, mainstream indie.  To a casual fan, of course we're snobs; to a certain sub-set, we're probably just following the lesser-followed herd.

Of course, that doesn't apply to vansmack, who openly admits his love of teen pop, or sweetcell, who, try as he might, admitted to wanted to see the Offspring in 2008    :D

To say that this board is not filled with indie snobs is laughable.

only 'cause i didn't get a chance to see them in 1998.

and dude, that lil'tidbit is just the beginning.  i'm among the people with the widest, most un-indie tastes here - not that i don't love me an ironic-t-shirt-wearing, pitchfork-approved band or three as well.

This board is comprised primarily of people who enjoy listening to, thinking about, and discussing the bands that that are, were, or will be booked at the 9:30 Club.  Its not fookin rocket surgery.

whats the big deal we've "created" a safe haven to discuss the music we like...  it's not like there aren't scads of other places for people to discuss that other 99% of the music out there...

true snobbish would exist if we sat around trashing American Idol for example

sure we could create lots of sub forums to meet the needs of every facet of mainstream music fans, then create more moderators, add super moderators, global moderators to handle the management of larger community.  however, this would create ghettos...

personally, i prefer the 9:30 forum sandbox the way it is, but would be willing to know what people honestly think to make this place more inclusive.

one not so serious thought i had was the establishment of swear box so if one had to absolutely positively trash a  "mainstream" band or artist, they could pony up for that pleasure.

Actually, a majority of the shows that play the 9:30 Club are not discussed at all on this board.

But the big indie shows that play the 9:30 certainly all are.

So Justin Timberlake is up for discussion without those teenagers wishing to discuss him not being chased off the board by, well....indie snobs?

the thing is that the teenagers wanting to discuss Justin Timberlake aren't likely to be hanging out here anyways... for one thing there's no avatars or sig files where one can profess their dying devotion to him in...

JT was up for discussion.  Were the JT fans chased off, or did they only arrive to self-servingly find out how to get tickets and profess there love for JT - then leave when that mission was accomplished??

JT was up for discussion and I clearly remember many regular members flaming the poor kids...

Who was it who left the comment

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AT THE 930...just one question, WHY?

Obviously this regular thought JT wasn't worthy of gracing the stage of the club = INDIE SNOB of the highest order.

*disclaimer* I don't care for JT, just using him as an example.

Was it the large caps that was offensive?

Why was JT at the 9:30 club in 2002?  Had any other ex-NSYNCers been at the Club before?  It was a fair question.

And it had an easy answer:  "B/c he's going to be like an American Robbie Williams and you people don't know it yet."

How would this be any different from someone saying

SERGEI FEDOROV IS NOW A CAPITOL... just one question, WHY?

Maybe they were wondering why a normally arena level act would want to play a venue 1/25th the size of where they usually play

Bottom line if someone wants to label us a bunch of snobs because of our musical tastes thats fine, it's just name calling on the internet.  IMHO it's one of the best  music discussion forums on the internet as I usually find most band forums pretty tedious to read over any lengthy period of time.

Let me tell you, I know Robbie Williams, Robbie Williams is a friend of mine, and JT is no Robbie Williams!!

I guess JT wanted to play the 930 because he's a musical artist and 930 is a music venue....or am I missing something...We all know that the point of the comment was that the poster thought JT was too mainstream for an uber-cool club such as the 930, which equals indie snobbery in my book.

It's okay to be an indie snob, there's nothing wrong with it. And just like alcoholism, admitting your problem is the first step on the road to recovery.
