Haven't seen anything posted on the board about the new Flaming Lips. Is this album any good? What do people think? I haven't heard it yet. thoughts?

Not joking at all.  IAPDA is my favorite Lips album, and probably one of my top 20 albums period.

I haven't picked it up yet.  I've heard pretty mixed reviews, but I'll still get my hands on it at some point.  I can't imagine it's terrible; to me personally, the Lips have been way too consistent over their history to put out something dreadful.  But that's just me...

yeah i mean, the beginning of the thread was actually pretty accurate. it's in the same vein as soft bulletin and yoshimi, but just not as strong. it's not bad, but if you already have 7 or 8 other lips albums, it's probably not the highest priority to buy this one.

It was yet another reminder that I didn't take enough drugs in college because I clearly didn't "get it"...

And I feel that I got Yoshimi.

I'm finding that the album is growing on me the more I listen to it... the first track (yeah yeah yeah song) could hold up on soft bulletin or yoshimi imo.  Otherwise its a step down from yoshimi which was a step down from soft bulletin, but still very listenable.  I will say though that there a couple of clunkers on here to a degree not seen on either of the last two albums.  My verdict is that if you're a fan of the lips you will probably enjoy this album and its worth your money.

different.  tasty.  more fiber than usual.  the second song makes me feel like dancing; 'wanna dance the night away.  dreaming of how the lips keep alive the strive for sometimes sounding the same, but most times fucking my brain.
