HOLY SHIT, indeed. I was PISSED I had to miss wolf eyes at warehouse this past halloween, as their last album Burned Mind is slowly becoming one of my favorite records EVER, but this way more than makes up for it! Lightning Bolt are SICK live and I've been dying to see one of the TLSILA + andrew wk/thurston shows ever since I've heard about the test run gigs they did in NYC over the summer. The only other bands I've seen on the bill before is nautical almanac and magik markers. Nautical Almanac were really good when I saw them.. magik markers on the other hand    I've heard very good things about the other noise cats on this bill though!

..If this show was in NYC, where these kinds of events generally tend to take place, I'd totally make the trip up north for it. In fact, there is something REALLY cool going on in Brooklyn, NY the 3rd weekend of March by the name of  NO FUN FEST 2005. A reunited Whitehouse should be killer!

so tonight at the warehouse, i met "the other dude" who put this event together with thurston. his name is chris grier and he's a member of TLASILA. he's been living in DC since march and a mutual friend thought that we should meet each other. strange how that works...

anyway, the idea for this was hatched when sonic youth came to DC to speak at georgetown, and thurston and chris thought that it would be a great idea to assemble their dream line-up of noise/improv acts as part of a statement against the election.

this show is going to be monumental. i already know a bunch of folks from philly and NYC coming down for this. DC better represent, though it's hard to imagine when i'm lucky to get 20 people to show up at experimental shows. maybe this is just what DC needs (billing sonic youth and andrew wk) to get this sort of music on the map, not just with locals, but also to make the rest of the country aware that DC has a fertile -- however small -- scene devoted to the exploration of sound.

that's unfortunate, as the wolf eyes set was arguably the most frightening, evil hour of music i've ever witnessed live (and i've seen close to 2000 shows).

nautical almanac can be spotty, but are always a joy to watch. magik markers are more about the spectacle than the music. i've never been too impressed by them musically, but as a show, it's tough to beat.

you bet i'll be there! i wouldn't miss a whitehouse reunion for anything!

shoot ur shot, you should try to make it to 611 florida this sunday for ortho or on january 8th for birchville cat motel. both of these bands could easily have been on the noise against fascism show.

hell yea dude, i'm totally down for the cause. noise music, as one of the members from wolf eyes so eloquently put it, "it's just a celebration of middle fingers." I'm glad Richmond has some devoted  followers of the music whom i've learned a lot from during my short time down here. There's even a get together every Thursday night at Harrison St Coffee Shop, which is conveniently 2 blocks away from where I live.

Oh I heard about this.. with Alex Ross, right? The stuff I've read from him in the new yorker is absolute gold. He reminds me so much of my buddy, also named Alex, it's not even funny. I'd love to know what they talked about. Fill me in?

  yea.. real great man, rub it in. i've had some pretty awful luck with shows this past fall, which is generally when my show attendance is at it's peak. Due to various unfortunate turn of events (scheduling issues, work, school, finances, etc) I've had to miss Love/The Zombies, Slayer, Mastodon, your doomfest, Animal Collective, Isis, incredible string band, the first 45 minutes of the pixies and countless other shit, but i've gotten things straightened out so i shouldn't have as many scheduling and budget conflicts anymore.

..The only Whitehouse lp's ive gotten my grubby hands on is Erector, Total Sex, and Great White Death but they completely fucked me up.. BRUTAL.

611 florida sounds good this sunday. However, I should probably make sure not to bring the same open minded music friends I brought last time, as they didn't seem to be too open minded during Excepter's set at the Free Folk thing. They were pissed at me for like a week! I guess they don't call Excepter "room-clearers" for nothing. Too bad the only other set i caught was the end of Sabir Mateen, who was serious. OH By the way, something I want to clear up. At the door, a guy in a trucker hat asked me for the 5 bucks, (who I thought might have been you) so I gave it to him. But later, that rat bastard turned out to be a guy in Excepter. I hope he didn't pull a fast one on me! So did you have something arranged with him to help collect cover at the door or was he really just a rat bastard?

it was a pretty crucial night. i know it was recorded but i don't have any copies. 16 bitch absolutely tore it up, as did flaherty/corsano.

horrible?  horrible?  bullshit.  it was glorious and rowdy, disturbing and profound, preachy and poignant.  and a fat krist novoselic walking around.

My thoughts exactly.  But as much as I wanted to be into To Live & Shave, I was just too fucking tired at that point to be interested in anything.  That was a long ass show.

Who were the two guys wearing masks?  That was just odd... The band that was the drummer/horn combo was atleast interesting.
