HOLY SHIT!
this is going to be amazing. the funny thing is, all of these bands would generally never play in DC unless:
1) sonic youth asked them to open for them, or
2) i booked them at my house or at the warehouse next door.
andrew wk fans take note: THIS IS GOING TO BE AN ALL-OUT NOISEFEST. NOTHING RESEMBLING POP MUSIC WHATSOEVER. 99% of the people on this board will not like what they hear if they choose to go to this show (except for captain jack, nkotbie, and econo). if you disagree, then come to
611 florida on january 8th to see birchville cat motel (abrasive noise from new zealand that thurston moore put out on ecstatic peace) as a sort of indicator as to what this event will mostly be like.
seriously, double leopards, 16 bitch pile-up, metalux, nautical almanac, magik markers, and monotract make amateurish lo-fi punk noise. i saw mirror/dash in 1997 in a NYC loft and it was basically kim whispering and hitting her bass, while thurston made feedback. lightning bolt may be the most accessible band on this bill.
i went up to the true vine record store in baltimore tonight to see chris corsano, and he told me that flaherty/corsano are also on the bill. they played my house almost two years ago and are arguably the most vital free jazz duo around. corsano also told me the show was put together my thurston and some other dude.
i can't wait for this event. noise freaks from all around the country will probably be coming to this.
