Is it just me or has the club just not had any good show

I remember when every season there'd be a great band at 9:30 Club at least 1 a month. Now, I know this is mostly based on taste, but I haven't seen one show that has interested me since Wolfmother.
 
 It appears Wilco is done playing there. Ween hasn't been there in ages. The upcoming shows don't interest me one bit.
 
 Has the booking agent gone on vacation or is getting harder to get these growing bands into a smaller club.
 
 Don't get me wrong, I love 9:30 and you can't find a club with that atmosphere, but I am hoping for some terrific shows this final few months of the year.

Unfortunately, summer has become the season of festivals, and now that Seth is involved expect quiet 9:30 summers for a while. Many of the good bands that would normally play the club are gathered together for one big shoe, which is happening as I type this. It's kind of like the cable company: to see the one band you've been waiting for all year, you have to buy a ton of other bands with it.

There's been lots of good shows at the Black Cat and RnR Hotel.

Hey all, I have never been to Black Cat or the other place.
 
 I guess I need to check them out. I live in Fredericksburg, so it's not too far.
 
 I don't know who is in charge of what, but the reasoning about all the summer festivals does make sense. However, it also seems like an easy way to get one or two of them to take a pitstop of a show.
 
 Who would I love to see in the club?
 1. Wilco
 2. Ween
 3. Silver Sun Pickups
 4. Arctic Monkeys ( i know they came earlier in the year)

Like everything else, this runs in cycles.  When its a time where every show is one that a given handful of folks think kicks ass, there is another handful of folks who are yawning over the schedule.  When its a lull for you I guess its the concert powers that be giving you a chance to build up your live music budget...  All in all I'll take the annual achedule at the 930 club, the people who work there, and how it is run any day.  I've been to venues from Ft Lauderdale to Cleveland in the last two years and none come close to being in the same league as the 930.

Yeah those 2 venues as well as a few others in the city have been booking a decent amount of good talent.

what about the smashing pumpkins?   i was gonna start this same thread about a month ago.  someone told me that most indie bands tour when college is in session.

That's amusing and probably true.
 
 I agree that the club has been somewhat boring this summer, but also agree with whoever commented on September/October; there are some really good shows booked already. (I guess this depends on what you like, though.) In fact, there are a few too many in those months for a college student with classes in Williamsburg; tell THAT to the indie bands. (Randomly, I also live in the Fredericksburg area; it's a blessing compared to the drive from Williamsburg.)

this tells me more about your taste and what you think a good band is, more so than any reflection on the quality of acts playing the club.
 
 ok, added nuance: popularity of the band. if wolfmother, ween and wilco (like W much?) are your idea of the only good band bands out there, you're bound to be disappointed by the club's regular line-up.  these bands are generally too "big" to play the club on a regular basis, a show at the 930 is a rarity.  i wouldn't expect them to play the 930 on every tour (except maybe ween, but they haven't toured in a while afaik).

Yup tis festival season in the US and Europe...  Then you get the CMJ Music festival and SXSW affect when bands do tours to coincide with those events... then jan/feb tends to be dead, due to possibility of inclement weather.

Ween should be announcing a tour in which they plan to hit "every major city" any day now.
 
 So look for a late october/early november club date I guess.

Do like I did and move the hell out of Fredericksburg to somewhere a little closer to DC.  That way you can take advantage of Baltimore shows without getting home at 4am as well!
