Shows in NYC this weekend?
« on: August 07, 2007, 09:17:00 pm »
I will be in NYC Saturday thru Wednesday AM. Any recommended concerts, theatre or musesum exhibitions? I am planning to see Badly Drawn Boy both Monday and Tuesday night at the Spiegelworld Tent near Fulton.

Try the Ramada Limited in Jersey City. One block from the PATH train.

ride the a/c line between b'way/nassau and canal street any time between 10am and noon. you'll see two of the best conga players on the planet. i love when i catch those dudes on the train.

or the free badly drawn boy shows work. i should be hitting up one of those..

I'm not sure if you're a fan of Ted Leo or the Thermals, but they are both playing a free show at Mccarren pool on sunday 8/13.

Junior Senior at Highline Ballroom on 8/14    :p
 Should be fun!

if youre here wed night (or can stay) the wombats are playing at the annex.

and the spiegeltent shows are far from free sal    :)    most are around $35 per show. i missed seeing shout out louds there because i could see them in brooklyn for half the cost.    :D

but the dance classes on wed nights are FREE! hahah. but yes, you work!

oh the cribs are playing sun night at union pool in brooklyn (i believe).

and forgot: but you can get free tix to see head automatica - but you have to rsvp to the highline ballroom. no guarantee.

Yes. I believe: www.springawakening.com (but one search in Google, many ticket distributors!)
When I go, I may just pick up tickets at the window. There are matinees on certain days, tickets cost the same.
Enjoy your trip! I'll be going in a few weeks and will be searching for a decent hotel as well.

you can get on stage tix as well for spring awakening. not sure how far in advance you have to book those, and theyre cheaper.

and yes, spring awakening did win a bunch of tonys. ive heard great things from a friend who saw it, but he's good friends with john gallagher who won the tony, so he might be a tad bit biased.

xanadu has really good reviews as well. and everyone that has seen wicked seems to have loved it. i love rent (and 2 of the original cast members are back in it) and 25th annual spelling bee.

I noted that and it would be pretty cool. They ask that you arrive early or else you'll have to stand (which at shortly over 2 hours, I'm glad they warn you!) I haven't mentioned Duncan Shiek's part for fear of...just fear.

lily- (from Pollstar:) Washington Social Club is at Canal Room on Sat. If you weren't at BDB, I'd go to Jeff Klein on Monday...and for outdoors Nickel Creek - just to see how they "ruined" Fiona Apple.   ;)

oh thankie. we just rsvp'd for ted leo. they say the show is 3-8 but when do the bands go on, or are they all doing full sets so it is actually a 5 hour show?

and i just saw that soul rebel brass band is doing summerstage on saturday afternoon.

was the bdb show for monday cancelled? i don't see it listed anymore nor can i find anything online.

argh, i should spend the week there starting tonight. i could have seen crowded house tonight and daft punk tommorow.
